On the afternoon of November 4, 2023, a 28-year-old man named Bilal Jamil al-Tabash was killed and another person was injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike near the European Hospital in the Al-Fokhari area in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip.

On the day of the alleged Israeli strike, @Sa7atPlBreaking and @ShehabAgency shared photos from “the farewell of the martyr Bilal al-Tabash, who was killed by [Israeli] bombing near the European Hospital in the Al-Fokhari area in Khan Yunis this afternoon.” The pictures showed Bilal’s body shrouded in a white sheet with his face exposed. According to various sources, including Nabd News and Facebook users Ajel Falstin al’an and Eid al-Sayyed al-Mahdi, “this young man, Bilal al-Tabash, was killed and another was injured” in the alleged airstrike by Israeli forces. No further information has been given regarding the wounded.

Various loved ones mourned Bilal’s death on social media. According to Facebook user Fatma Ashraf, Bilal “was a well-mannered, kind-hearted young man with a good reputation, and loved by everyone. He was looking forward to life and looking for a bride to marry.” Others such as Um Raed and Sha’aban Mahmoud described Bilal as “heroic” and “brave,” respectively.

Khaled Abo Al Saher shared a photo of Bilal and wrote that “my eyes shed tears, my heart grieves, and I am saddened by your departure…the martyrdom of my dear brother, Bilal al-Tabash. May God have mercy on you, my love.”

Um Seraj Um Seraj shared a smiling photo of Bilal as well as a picture of the young man’s body after he was killed and announced that “my cousin Bilal Jamil al-Tabash was martyred in an Israeli bombardment in eastern Khan Yunis. May Allah have mercy on you, cousin, and grant you Paradise.”

Mohammed W Tabash, Hëbä Tãbåsh, Ahmed al-Tabash Abo Elias, Ahmed A Tabash, Hani Ibrahem, Hosam Abo Oda, Amr Tabash, Ody Ahmed al-Tabash, and Abdullah Tabash mourned “the martyrdom of their cousin” and shared photos honoring him as well. One such photo shared by Hosam Abu Oda shows Bilal smiling at the camera, a toddler in his arms. Hussin Abi EKhrais shared a photo of Bilal’s shrouded body.

Abo Moza described “my friend and neighbor, the martyr Bilal Jamil al-Tabash” as  “well-mannered.” Relative Ahmed Massoud grieved “the martyrdom of my wife’s uncle, Bilal Jamil al-Tabash, may Allah have mercy on him.” Mohammed Kamal Amer wrote “my eyes shed tears, my heart grieves, and I am saddened by your departure. The martyrdom of my dear friend. May God have mercy on you, my dear.”

On December 5, 2023, Sha’aban al-Tabash honored his memory with “Umrah [pilgrimage to Mecca] in the spirit of my brave martyr brother Bilal Jamil al-Tabash.”  In a Facebook post, Sha’aban shared a photo of a hand holding up a cell phone in front of the Kaaba in Mecca, with a smiling photo of Bilal beaming on the screen.

Bilal has been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023 the MoH has released six lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars is matching individuals to the first list where their name appeared. In regard to this incident, Bilal was matched to the second ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on January 7th, 2024.

Reports of the incident mention the vicinity of the European Hospital (المستشفى الأوروبي) in the Al-Fokhari area (منطقة الفخاري) in Khan Younis (خان يونس), for which the generic coordinates are: 31.303534, 34.320700. Due to limited satellite imagery and information available to Airwars, we were unable to verify the location further.
