At least two people were reported killed after alleged Israeli airstrikes on the village of Nabi Chit in Lebanon’s Baalbek-Hermel governorate. Others were reported missing; their status – whether alive or deceased – has not been made available.
While most sources alluded to general strikes on Nabi Chit, some, including Facebook users Nextlb and Fankoush, alleged that the strikes hit the “Al-Safri junction on the Nabi Chit road.”
Facebook user Nisrine Chahine wrote that people in Nabi Chit, among other towns, were “appealing for equipment and machinery to remove the rubble and rescue those who are still alive.” Al Jazeera also spoke to the destruction, sharing a video in which a journalist is seen standing amongst extensive damage. Standing among the rubble on the 27th, the correspondent Catherine Hanna, says that the town endured tens of Israeli strikes – maybe 40 – the day before, resulting in extensive damage. She stands in a residential area, and amid the rubble, reports that homes were destroyed, and as such, there are a number of families who lost their homes. She adds that a number of victims rose as a result of the strikes, and some were also injured. She closes the report saying that the civilians who live in the Bekaa are facing Israeli strikes every day.
Catherine reported again – from a different site in Nabi Chit – on the 27th. In a video shared to the Al Jazeera Youtube Channel, Catherine reiterates that the town was hit more than 40 times on the 26th. In this video, Catherine stands at what remains of an onion farm. She says that the strikes went on through the evening and into the night. She said that many of the people of the town who work in the agriculture industry had decided to stay despite the strikes and the danger, as they consider all of their land and plants to be “here.” Still, she reported, others decided to leave for towns that were safer. She goes on to say that the destruction in the town is widespread – with homes, agricultural plots, and places of commerce all destroyed. She also notes that a car that had been next to a home was destroyed in a strike – completely burned.
Catherine’s reporting referred to “victims,” reports from Faceboook user ‘Babliyati & Babliyati’ noted “martyrs,” and reports from Facebook users like Sabri Al-Nasiri and Ghada Moussa recorded “three martyrs.” As such, the range for those killed in this incident has been recorded as ‘two to three’. Additionally, Catherine reported that there were “injuries.” Though Airwars was unable to determine through open sources the identities of those reportedly harm, given the variety of reports, the civilian harm status for this incident has been recorded as ‘fair’. This will be updated should additional information become available.
Where sources mentioned a belligerent, all pointed to the Israeli military.
