On 12 November 2024, at least 18 civilians from two families were killed when the three-storey Ghosn family home was allegedly struck by an Israeli airstrike; several people were also reported injured. At least one militant was also likely killed in the attack. The Ghosn family home was under Pine Forest Hill, overlooking the Joun factory, also reportedly damaged in the strike. According to Lebeconomy, the home belonged to a member of the Ghosn family who worked in the air conditioning field, and was housing displaced families at the time of the bombardment.

Fatima Ahmad al-Shami, the matriarch of the family, was reportedly killed in the attack alongside her two daughters, Sakina Mansour Kawtharani and Ruqayya Mansour Kawtharani, and son, Hussein Mansour Kawtharani.

According to multiple sources, Sakina was a journalist at al-Nour Radio, a radio station affiliated with Hezbollah. Zahra Sharaf described Sakina on Facebook as “an example of giving and loyalty.” Photos shared showed that she was a young woman. Other photos shared by Teffahta on Facebook also suggest that Hussein was the youngest child; the photo shared of him showed a young boy, likely between the ages of 11 to 13, wearing a Manchester United football shirt.

Two of Sakina’s children were also reported killed: her son, Reda Mustafa Ghosn and daughter Sarah Mustafa Ghosn. Fatima’s second daughter Ruqayya also lost her daughter, Jude Ibrahim Sbeiti, in the alleged Israeli attack.

The Facebook account, Teffahta, again shared photos of the family members. An image of Sarah showed a young girl posing at what seems to be some kind of certificate ceremony. An image of Reda showed that he was a toddler. Jude was also only a child, a young girl perhaps approaching or in her early teens. Facebook user Naher shared a photograph of Fatima, clothed in a black khimar, holding a plate of pastries, while @AndrinKirkuki shared a photograph of Sakina embracing her two children.

Zeinab Salim Ghosn also reportedly died in the strike. A young photographer, she was remembered by her workplace, Beirut International School, as a “dear sister”. The school praised her dedication, writing that she had worked with the school since it was founded to photograph multiple occasions such as Mother’s Day, Graduation and Independence Day. With her death, the school shared, “departed the memories of years”. A photograph was attached of Zainab, showing a young woman wearing a sweatshirt with the word “Positive” printed on it, holding a camera.

Mahmoud Sbeiti, his wife Zahra Salim Ghosm and their three sons Jawad Sbeit, Mohammed Ali Sbeiti and Amir Sbeiti were reportedly killed in the attack. A Facebook account, “Ya janoub”, shared a photo of the family. The three boys were all young, all appearing under ten years old. Al Mustafa High School-Nabatieh also shared images of the family on their Facebook page.

Further members of the Ghosn family reportedly killed include a woman, Lin Mohammad Ghosn and a man, Ali Mohammad Ghosn. Another man, Ramzi Shams El-Din was also reportedly killed alongside two others, Rayan Hussein Sobh and Wafiqa Mohammad al-Qudour. A photo shared of Rayan and her father by Kfardounine.municipality on Facebook showed Rayan, a teenager, embracing her father. A Facebook page for the town, “Jounchoufnews” reported that a burial service would be held for Ramzi the following day, 13 November, “after the noon prayer”. This brings the total of named victims of the alleged Israeli airstrike to 19 people.

Another person, Mohammad Salim Ghosn, was also reported killed in the attack. Described by Facebook user Shohadana as a “mujahid”, Ghosn was pictured in camouflage in an image that appears to be a poster of the kind Hezbollah publishes when a militant is killed. For this reason, he has been understood by Airwars as a belligerent, and not counted in the civilian casualty toll.

Megaphone News reported via Facebook that the Lebanese Ministry of Health claimed that the death toll from the attack was at 15, including eight women and four children, as well as 12 people who were injured. A lower injury figure was published by CivildefenseLB, who alleged five had been wounded. At the time of publishing that figure, the Ministry of Health also stated that teams were continuing to search the rubble; casualty figures were likely to increase. From the sources referenced above it also appears that more than four children were killed in the alleged Israeli attack. According to @Sawtelmada on Twitter/X, Al Mayadeen News reported that more than 20 people had been killed with six missing under the rubble. CivildefenseLB also reported on Facebook that five people were wounded and two children recovered from under the rubble; neither of the children had survived. Photographs shared by Yasour News showed Lebanese Red Cross workers searching through the rubble of the building. Facebook user Iklimlb reported on 13 November, the day following the attack, that two further bodies were recovered, bringing the total number reported killed in the supposed Israeli airstrike to “approximately 25” people. It is possible, though not definitive, that this number includes militant Mohammad Ghosn, meaning a civilian toll would be 24.

The same account reported that Civil Defense teams from Shehim and Matla, acting under the supervision of the regional Director of Civil Defense in South Mount Lebanon, Hussam Dahrouj, and the Director of the Matla Center Civil Defense, Ghassan Abu Daher, participated in the search and rescue operation on the site of the Ghosn family home. Reportedly charities across the Iqlim al-Kharoub region, including the Awareness and Consolation Charitable society in Ketermaya, the Social Society in Shehim and the Development and Peace Association in Anout, all assisted in the transfer of the dead and injured to nearby hospitals in the aftermath of the attack. Photographs were shared of the destruction caused by the strike.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli Military.
