Airwars Assessment
On November 26, 2024, an alleged Israeli airstrike hit Balbek’s Sharawneh neighbourhood, killing six people and injuring up to 15 others. “A woman and her children” were reported as amongst those killed.
On X (formerly Twitter), multiple sources reported that at least six were killed in the strike. @Qudsn_Brk, @qudsn, @ShehabAgency, and @FarahAm11408003 termed the event “urgent,” highlighting civilian casualties. There were no details of the victims publicly available, though this assessment will be updated if further information emerges.
On Facebook, media outlet pages such as Jezzinetahki and Masralyoum.net, reported initial casualties, first reporting three dead and fifteen wounded, and later confirming six deceased. @Journalist mustafa sakar and @Hameed al-taai reported that a woman and children were among those killed. Facebook users Zahle Post and Phoenicia News reported the impact of the strike on the civilian population, with Radio Alam and Royal Arab Society referring to the airstrike as an “occupation raid.”
The accounts @palestine_graph, @asasmedialb, @elsiyasa, @IMLebanonNews, @futuretvnews, and @Macario218 published videos demonstrating the destruction, with rescue teams looking for survivors, casualties being carried away on stretchers, and civilians mourning their loved ones. Others published videos of rescue workers removing bodies from the rubble. Facebook users Mtv Lebanon and Elnashra also published video of the destruction, including buildings that collapsed, debris-filled streets, and emergency workers removing bodies. Corroborating video was shared by FutureTV, Alarabiya Lebanon, and Bekaa Breaking News, which showed video of emergency workers evacuating the wounded and assessing the extent of the destruction. Facebook pages Asas Media and Ya Beirut published night rescue footage, where sirens and searchlights were seen as crews worked to locate survivors.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all attributed the airstrike to Israeli forces.
