Associated Press correspondent Mohammed Zaatari and Sputnik correspondent Abdel Qader Al-Bay sustained various injuries, requiring their transfer to Marjeyoun Hospital for treatment. He asserted that this reprehensible incident is part of a series of crimes committed by Israel against Lebanese journalists, media professionals, and photographers since October 8, 2023, resulting in the deaths of more than twelve of them, in addition to dozens who suffered permanent disabilities or serious injuries. We bring this incident to the attention of the international community, human rights organizations, the International Criminal Court, the International Federation of Journalists, and the General Union of Arab Journalists, to demonstrate the extent of Israel's disregard for international laws and conventions, and its violation of the most basic principles, including the prohibition of targeting journalists in war zones and conflict areas. Amid the joy of southern Lebanese residents returning to their villages, the Israeli occupation army opened fire on a group of photojournalists today at noon in the southern town of Khiam, where it still maintains a presence in parts of the town. Freelance photographer Mohammad al-Zaatari, who contributes to the Associated Press and other media outlets, was seriously wounded by three bullets, one in his left hand and two in his right leg. He was initially taken to Ragheb Harb Hospital in Nabatieh and then transferred to Ghassan Hammoud Hospital in Sidon. Sputnik photographer Abdel Qader al-Bay was also wounded by shrapnel in his right leg and was taken to al-Najda al-Shaabiya Hospital in Nabatieh for treatment. Photojournalist Ali Hashisho, who contributes to several news agencies, was wounded by shrapnel in his lip. The three photographers had begun documenting the return of residents to their villages since early morning. Upon reaching Nabatieh, they learned that residents had started entering the town of Khiam. "We decided to accompany them there because of Khiam's special symbolic significance and because the town had witnessed fierce battles between the enemy and resistance fighters in recent days," Al-Bay explained. In a phone interview with Al-Mufakkira, Al-Bay added that upon reaching the entrance to Khiam, Lebanese army personnel asked them to proceed on foot. They got out of their car and began walking through the town's neighborhoods and streets, documenting the destruction and devastation. Residents were in the town at that time. Al-Bay continued, saying that when they reached the town square, they spotted remnants of equipment, bags, bullet casings, and tank tracks on the ground. They began hearing voices, which they believed to be Israeli soldiers, coming from one of the buildings. As soon as Al-Bay raised his camera to take a picture, bullets began raining down on them, wounding them. He continued, saying that they tried to stay as far away from the soldiers as possible, until a local resident who was checking on his house managed to take them to Marjeyoun Hospital, where they received first aid before each was transferred to a hospital for further treatment. Al-Bay said, “The enemy wanted to target us because we are journalists, because they don’t want any of us to document their defeat and their hiding in houses.” He added, “Since the beginning of the war, the enemy has disregarded all international conventions and continues to violate them until the very last moment.” [Video Player: Video documenting the moment Israeli soldiers opened fire on photojournalists] The Israeli army killed six journalists and media collaborators while they were performing their duties during its aggression against Lebanon, which began in October of last year. Among them was photojournalist Issam Abdullah, who was killed in a direct attack on a group of journalists on October 13, 2023, in an Israeli airstrike on Alma al-Shaab. Six other journalists were also wounded in the same attack. The Israeli army also targeted the Al-Mayadeen team, consisting of reporter Farah Omar, cameraman Rabih Maamari, and journalist Hussein Aqil, live on November 21, 2023, just minutes after they finished a live broadcast, resulting in their deaths. More recently, cameraman Ghassan Najjar and broadcast engineer Mohammad Reda, both from Al-Mayadeen, and cameraman Wissam Qassem from Al-Manar, were killed in an Israeli attack on the journalists' residence in Hasbaya on October 25, which also injured two other cameramen. The assassination of journalists is considered a war crime, as international humanitarian law prohibits targeting civilians and designating them as legitimate targets in combat operations. Journalists carrying out dangerous professional duties in areas of armed conflict are considered civilians and must be protected as such, provided they do not engage in any activity that compromises their civilian status. They do not lose this legal protection by supporting a party to the conflict or even by contributing to the overall war effort. The death toll from the Israeli aggression against Lebanon since October 2023 has reached 3,853 martyrs and 15,878 wounded, according to statistics from the Lebanese Ministry of Health. On October 23, 2023, Israel destroyed one of the offices of Al-Mayadeen TV, located in an apartment within a residential building in the Jnah area of Beirut. Journalists in Lebanon have also been targeted in other incidents, including one on November 25, 2023, when the Israeli army fired shots into the air to intimidate a team from NBN TV on the Khiam road opposite the Metula settlement on the border with Palestine. The team was touring some areas of the eastern sector of southern Lebanon, and the aim was to stop them from broadcasting live. None of the three-person media team were injured. On November 13, Israeli rockets struck a group of journalists in the town of Yaroun, near the vehicles of Al Jazeera and Al Jadeed television stations. Al Jazeera cameraman Issam Mawasi sustained a minor leg injury, and the Al Jazeera crew's vehicle was reported to be the most damaged. Rockets also landed near the location of an NBN television crew and Al Akhbar newspaper correspondent Amal Khalil.

في غمرة فرح أهل جنوب لبنان بعودتهم إلى قراهم، أطلق جيش الاحتلال الإسرائيلي النار على مجموعة من المصوّرين الصحافيين اليوم عند الساعة الثانية عشرة ظهرًا في بلدة الخيام الجنوبية حيث ما زال متواجدًا في أجزاء منها. وقد أصيب في إطلاق النار، المصوّر المستقلّ محمّد الزعتري المتعاون مع “آسوشيتد برس” ووسائل إعلام أخرى، إصابة بليغة بثلاث رصاصات، استقرّت واحدة في يده اليسرى واثنتان في رجله اليمنى، نقل على إثرها إلى مستشفى راغب حرب في النبطية ومنها إلى مستشفى غسّان حمود في صيدا. كما أصيب مصوّر وكالة “سبوتنيك” الروسية، عبد القادر الباي، بشظايا في قدمه اليمنى نقل على إثرها إلى مستشفى النجدة الشعبية في النبطية حيث تلقّى العلاج، كذلك أصيب المصوّر الصحافي علي حشيشو المتعاون مع عدد من الوكالات الإخبارية بشظية في شفته. وكان المصوّرون الثلاثة، قد بدأوا مواكبة عودة الأهالي إلى قراهم منذ الصباح الباكر، ومع وصولهم إلى مدينة النبطية علموا أنّ الأهالي قد بدأوا بدخول بلدة الخيام، حينها “قررنا مواكبتهم إلى هناك لما للخيام من رمزية خاصّة ولأنّ البلدة شهدت معارك طاحنة بين العدو ورجال المقاومة في الأيام الأخيرة”، بحسب الباي.  ويضيف الباي في اتصال مع “المفكرة” أنّهم مع وصولهم إلى مدخل بلدة الخيام، طلب منهم عناصر من الجيش اللبناني الدخول سيرًا، فترجّلوا من سيارتهم وراحوا يتجوّلون في أحياء وشوارع البلدة موثّقين الدمار والخراب، وكان الأهالي في هذا الوقت في البلدة. ويتابع الباي أنّهم حين وصلوا إلى ساحة البلدة رصدوا بقايا عتاد وحقائب وطلقات رصاص وآثار دبابات على الأرض، وبدأوا يسمعون أصواتًا رجّحوا أن تكون لجنود إسرائيليين تخرج من أحد المباني. وما أن رفع الباي الكاميرا لالتقاط صورة، حتى بدأ الرصاص ينهمر عليهم، ما أدّى إلى إصابتهم. ويتابع أنّهم حاولوا الابتعاد عن الجنود قدر المستطاع، إلى أن تمكّن أحد أبناء البلدة الذي كان يتفقّد منزله من نقلهم إلى مستشفى مرجعيون حيث أجريت لهم الإسعافات الأوّلية قبل أن ينقل كلّ منهم إلى مستشفى للمعالجة. ويقول الباي إنّ “العدو أراد استهدافنا كوننا صحافيين، لأنّهم لا يريدون لأحد منّا أن يوثق هزيمتهم واختباءهم في المنازل”، ويضيف أنّ “العدو منذ بداية الحرب لا يقيم اعتبارًا لأي من.المواثيق الدولية وهو حتى اللحظة الأخيرة يمعن في خرقها”. Video Playerفيديو يوثّق لحظة إطلاق الجنود الإسرائيليين النار على المصوّرين الصحافيين وكان الجيش الإسرائيلي قتل في عدوانه على لبنان الذي بدأ في تشرين الأوّل العام الماضي، 6 صحافيين ومتعاونًا صحافيًا أثناء أدائهم عملهم، هم المصوّر الصحافي عصام عبد الله في استهداف مباشر لمجموعة من الصحافيين في 13 تشرين الأوّل 2023 في غارة إسرائيلية على علما الشعب وقد أصيب في الاستهداف أيضًا 6 صحافيين آخرين. كما استهدف الجيش الإسرائيلي أيضًا فريق “الميادين” المؤلّف من المراسلة فرح عمر والمصوّر ربيع معماري والمعاون الصحافي حسين عقيل، مباشر في 21 تشرين الثاني 2023 بعد دقائق من فراغهم من رسالة على الهواء ما أدّى إلى استشهادهم. ومؤخّرًا قتل المصوّر غسّان نجار ومهندس البث محمد رضا من قناة “الميادين” والمصوّر وسام قاسم من “المنار” في استهداف إسرائيلي لمقرّ إقامة الصحافيين في حاصبيا في 25 تشرين الأوّل الماضي أصيب فيه مصوّران آخران.  ويعتبر اغتيال الصحافيين جريمة حرب كون القانون الدولي الإنساني يحظر استهداف المدنيين واعتبارهم أهدافًا مشروعة للعمليات القتالية. ويعتبر الصحافيون الذين يمارسون مهمّات مهنية خطرة في مناطق النزاعات المسلحة أشخاصًا مدنيين يجب حمايتهم بهذه الصفة شرط ألّا يقوموا بأي عمل يسيء إلى وضعهم كأشخاص مدنيين. ولا يفقدون هذه الحماية القانونية جرّاء تأييدهم لأحد أطراف النزاع أو حتى مساهمتهم في المجهود الحربي العام.  وبلغت حصيلة العدوان الإسرائيلي على لبنان منذ تشرين الأوّل 2023، 3853 شهيدًا و15878 جريحًا بحسب إحصاءات وزارة الصحة اللبنانية.  وفي 23 تشرين الأوّل الماضي، دمّرت إسرائيل أحد مكاتب “قناة الميادين” الموجود في شقة داخل مبنى سكني بمنطقة الجناح، في بيروت. كذلك تعرّضت الفرق الصحافية في لبنان لاستهدافات أخرى، بينها في 25 تشرين الثاني 2023، حين أطلق الجيش الإسرائيلي النار في الهواء ترهيبًا باتّجاه فريق عمل قناة NBN على طريق الخيام مقابل مستعمرة المطلة عند الحدود مع فلسطين، أثناء جولة للفريق على بعض مناطق القطاع الشرقي في جنوب لبنان، وبغية إيقافهم عن البث المباشر، ولم يصب أحد من الفريق الإعلامي المؤلف من 3 أشخاص بأذى. وفي 13 تشرين الثاني، سقطت قذائف صاروخية إسرائيلية على مجموعة صحافيين في بلدة يارون، بالقرب من سيارتي تلفزيونيّ “الجزيرة” و”الجديد”، وسُجّلت إصابة واحدة طفيفة بقدم مُصوّر “الجزيرة” عصام موّاسي، وقد أفيد أنّ سيارة طاقم “الجزيرة” هي الأكثر تضرّرًا. كما سقطت القذائف أيضًا بالقرب من مكان تواجد فريق عمل تلفزيون NBN ومراسلة جريدة الأخبار الزميلة آمال خليل.

He adds, "Since the beginning of the war, the enemy has not respected any international conventions, and until the last moment, they continue to violate them."

Sputnik correspondent Abdel Qader Al-Bay published a video documenting the Israeli occupation army opening fire on a group of journalists in the city of Khiam. The occupation forces also continue their attacks on residents who have returned to the city, attempting to intimidate them and further depopulate it of southerners. The Samir Kassir Foundation indicated that the attack on the journalists resulted in Al-Bay being wounded by shrapnel in his foot, and Associated Press photographer Mohammed Al-Zaatari being shot twice in the leg.

Captain Qassifi Condemns Enemy Attack on Journalists in Khiam The head of the Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate, Joseph Qassifi, condemned the Israeli occupation forces' shooting of a group of journalists and reporters in the town of Khiam. Associated Press correspondent Mohammed Zaatari and Sputnik correspondent Abdel Qader Al-Bay sustained various injuries, requiring their transfer to Marjeyoun Hospital for treatment. This reprehensible incident is part of a series of crimes committed by Israel against Lebanese journalists, media professionals, and photographers since October 8, 2023, resulting in the deaths of more than twelve of them, in addition to dozens who suffered permanent disabilities or serious injuries. We bring this incident to the attention of the international community, human rights organizations, the International Criminal Court, the International Federation of Journalists, and the General Union of Arab Journalists, to demonstrate the extent of Israel's disregard for international laws and conventions, and its violation of the most basic principles, including the prohibition of targeting journalists in war zones and conflict areas. What happened to the group of journalists and media professionals, especially to our colleagues Zaatari and Bay, constitutes the first violation of the ceasefire agreement. Al-Qusaifi concluded by reiterating his condemnation and denunciation of the incident, on behalf of the Press Syndicate Council and the Syndicate itself, and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

النقيب القصيفي يستنكر اعتداء العدو على الاعلاميين في الخيام استنكر نقيب محرري الصحافة اللبنانية جوزف القصيفي إقدام جنود الاحتلال الصهيوني على إطلاق النار على مجموعة من الصحافيين والمراسلين في بلدة الخيام، فاصيب كل مراسل " الاسوشيتد برس" الزميل محمد الزعتري ومراسل " سبوتنيك" عبد القادر الباي بجراح مختلفة ، استوجبت نقلهما إلى مستشفى مرجعيون للمعالجة. إن هذه الحادثة المدانة لا تنفصل عن سلسلة الجرائم التي ارتكبتها إسرائيل في حق الصحافيين والاعلاميين والمصورين اللبنانيين منذ الثامن من تشرين 2023 حتى اليوم وكان من نتائجها الدامية إرتقاء ما يزيد على اثني عشر منهم ، عدا العشرات الذين اصيبوا باعاقات دائمة او جراح بليغة. اننا نضع هذه الحادثة أمام المجتمع الدولي ومنظمات حقوق الإنسان والمحكمة الجنائية الدولية والاتحاد الدولي للصحفيين والاتحاد العام للصحفيين العرب،لتبيان مقدار التمادي الصهيوني في ضرب القوانين والمواثيق الدولية عرض الحائط والتنكر لابسط قواعدها بالامتناع عن التعرض للاعلاميين في مناطق الحروب والنزاعات. وإن ما جرى مع مجموعة الصحافيين والاعلاميين ، وخصوصا مع الزميلين الزعتري والباي، يعد اول خرق لاطلاق النار. وختم القصيفي مجددا ادانته واستنكاره الحادثة، باسم مجلس النقابة والنقابة، متمنيا للمصابين الشفاء العاجل.
