Around midday on Saturday, November 30, 2024, an alleged Israeli drone hit a vehicle in Majdan Zun, in the Tyre district in the South Governorate, injuring at least three people, including a child, 7-year-old child Ali Abbas Kassab.

Various local and regional news networks, including Al-Numaniyah News and Palestinian Event Newspaper, reported the incident on their social media pages, referencing the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Twitter/X account @Sa7atPl reported the incident at 12:09 p.m., suggesting it occurred around midday. Saint Petersburg News added that the incident happened in the “western sector of the area off-limits to Lebanese citizens.” According to the Facebook post of Al-Khalil Asifa, the three wounded suffered minor injuries.

A post shared by Imam Sadr Brigade – Majdalzoun showed young Ali, “the young scout from the Islamic Message Scouts Association.” In the image, Ali wears a scouts uniform – a blue button-down shirt with a yellow scarf around his neck. He holds a plate of food, and the image, which is cropped, shows someone – maybe his father or an uncle – hugging him. Ali is pictured with bright eyes and a soft smile.

An article written by Amal Khalil for Al-Akhbar about the Israeli military’s continued presence and threat to the citizens of Majdan Zun included a quote from Ali’s father, Abbas, about the strike. Abbas said that he had believed in the ceasefire so had decided to return to his Majdan Zun – his family’s town – after the ceasefire and resume work at his bakery. Abbas said that Ali was playing in the street in front of the family’s bakery when an Israeli drone “fired a missile” at the ‘Rapid’ van sitting on the street, injuring Ali.

In a video shared by Souzanita Elayubi, Abbas is interviewed in front of his bakery. He says that he was working in his bakery when the Israeli drone struck the car outside the bakery, injuring Ali. He says that Ali was injured in the back. He walks to what remains of the white van. The windows are blown out and the passenger door on the left-hand side is mangled – with the metal twisted toward the sky. He shows the vehicle to the camera, pointing out that it’s just a van which he uses to transfer things like wheat – nothing else. Abbas said that he and his family had been displaced, but decided to return to Majdan Zun in light of the ceasefire.

A post shard by Dearborn site on the day of the incident said that the car was empty when it was struck, and that those who were injured were outside the vehicle at the time of the strike. The article included a picture of the vehicle – a small white van.
