On Friday, October 25th, 2024, two civilians, including a child, were injured as a result of an alleged Turkish shelling on the village of Umm al-Kaif in the countryside of Tal Tamr to the northwest of al-Hasakah, Syria.
An eight-year-old girl Amina Khader Hassino and a 50-year-old man Muhammad Dalf were injured as a result of the incident. They were described as having varying degrees of injuries by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Amina Hassino was injured in the abdomen as a result of shrapnel and received treatment in the city hospital. Hawar News detailed the events with a photo of Hassino following the incident where she is seen lying in a pink sweater on a hospital bed with her mouth opened.
Muhammad Dalf was also injured as a result of shrapnel and received treatment for knee injuries. Dalf’s health condition was reported as stable, alongside a photo of him standing up dressed in a denim jacket.
In addition to the video posted by Hawar News, Facebook user Ronahitv uploaded footage following the incident. The footage showed smoke billowing out of the settlement from afar.
The shelling also resulted in significant material damage. Hawar News uploaded photos and videos of the aftermath across social media and their website. The photos showed complete destruction of some properties. However, it was unclear from the pictures whether those were residential buildings or agricultural premises.
Where sources attributed the strike to a belligerent, they were unanimous in identifying the Turkish military as responsible for the attack.
