Airwars Assessment
On Monday, December 9, 2024, an alleged Turkish drone strike hit a civilian vehicle between the villages of al-Shor al-Sharqi and al-Gharbi, near the town of Zarkan (Abu Rasin) in the northern countryside of Hasakah, northeast Syria, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to at least two others.
While most sources, including Hawar News and Roj News, reported three injuries from the attack, Fox Press and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria on Facebook reported one casualty.
According to the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria on Facebook, the drone targeted a Hyundai H100-type vehicle carrying civilians. The attack reportedly took place in the al-Jazeera canton, on a rural road.
According to Rojnews and Hawarnews, one of the injured individuals, identified as Muhammad Awad, 53, was transferred to a hospital in al-Darbasiyah, while the remaining one or two civilians wounded were transported to medical facilities in the city of Hasakah due to the severity of their injuries.
A picture released by multiple local sources, including Rojnews and Hawarnews, shows a man lying down on what appears like a treatment table with blood on his clothes around his chest, probably being treated for his injuries by people around him.
Another picture released by NPA news shows a destroyed car on fire on the side of a road.
At the time of reporting, no further information has been released regarding the identities or conditions of the other victims.
Where the sources identified a belligerent, all named Turkish military forces as responsible.
