Airwars Assessment
Two children were reportedly killed in an alleged Turkish artillery shelling and/or drone strike of Konftar (Kun Aftar, Tarmi) village in the southwestern countryside of Kobani (Ayn al-Arab), in the Aleppo Governorate, Syria, on Monday, 9 December 2024. The names and ages of those killed are not known, although they were referred to in all social media posts and by all news outlets as children.
Although the gender of the children is not mentioned, photographs posted to Facebook by local news outlets showed the bodies of two young boys lying on the floor of what appeared to be a residential home. They were wearing casual clothing, which was scuffed and bloodied. A woman or girl was shown kneeling next to one of the boys.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Turkish military.
The sources conflicted on the nature of the attack. While most sources alleged this was an artillery shelling, Exber24 News and NPA News claimed that this was a drone strike instead.
