Airwars Assessment
In the early morning of 13 June 2025, a young civilian man was killed in an alleged Israeli bombardment on an apartment complex on Andarzgoo Street in the Tajrish neighbourhood of Tehran.
69-year-old Ali Shamkhani, a naval officer, a senior political advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a member of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, was also injured in the strike on his apartment complex. His apartment was destroyed in the blast, leaving him trapped beneath the rubble for approximately three hours. Reports indicate that he suffered severe internal injuries, including damaged hearing, a broken chest, and lung injuries. Shamkhani was transferred to hospital in critical condition, with later reporting indicating that his condition stabilised in the days that followed. Based on Ali’s active participation in the Iranian Navy, he has not been counted among civilian injuries.
Sabreen News quoted by @yaghma_fashkham on Twitter/X reported that Ali Shamkhani’s wife Azar had been also killed in the strike. However, this information was not corroborated by any other sources, and Shamkhani himself did not mention in his subsequent interviews that his wife had been killed.
As a result of the powerful blast wave, a neighbouring house collapsed, killing Sina Soleimani. He was described as a civilian financial analyst and capital-market activist with no military or security affiliation by multiple sources, including @behnamsamadi_ir, @DRahimloo, @Mardetanha, @validhelalat, and @someonecrazyy7, all of whom stated that he was an ordinary resident killed when the blast wave caused the wall of his home to collapse onto him. @MahboobKhansari lamented his death, remembering him as “so lovely” and “so smart and a genius,” including a photograph of both.
Photographic evidence published after the incident supports accounts of highly localised destruction within the residential building. Videos shared by @Gelareh.hon show the immediate aftermath, including an individual described as the alleged son of Ali Shamkhani in visible distress. The footage shows that damage to the building was largely confined to two floors. Additional images published by @Mirakh838 and @Vahid on X further demonstrate that the destruction was concentrated on the specific floor where Shamkhani had reportedly been sleeping.
Where sources have identified responsibility for the strike, they have attributed it to the Israeli military.
