At least three civilians died and dozens more were injured in alleged Russian airstrikes on Palmyra, according to local sources.

Shaam News Network reported that Russian warplanes launched more than 150 raids targeting neighbourhoods in Palmyra, resulting in the dozens of civilians being killed and injured “as well as significant damage and the outbreak of large fires“. It added that there had also been bombing by Assad regime helicopters with about 100 explosive cylinders, targeting all districts of the city. SNN‘s source noted that victims were still under the rubble, and that a woman and her child had so far been found.

One victim was named by the Violations Documentation Center as Abdulhakeem al Jameel

The victim was also named by other sources, which blamed Russia. According to Syria News Desk, “The Russian aviation launched more than 150 raids yesterday [March 9th]  on Palmyra, causing injury of dozens of civilians. Medical staff weren’t able to treat them because of poor medical facilities in the city. They also failed to take them to the town of Raqqa, for fear of bombing”.
