Airwars assessment
Residents of West Mosul and local press sources reported that a named civilian – Khaled Nafie Hassan – was killed by mortar shelling on his house in Rifai neighbourhood, West Mosul. He used to work as a health worker/ nurse. It is unclear who was responsible for the raids.
Moreover, Ahrar Ninawa (local Facebook group) and Ahmed Ks posted a video, showing another victim – killed while on his motorbike (GRAPHIC, see photo below) – and two injured civilians (one child). The last graphic scene of Ahmed Ks’s video shows the dead body of a young boy in a hospital bed. In both posts, aircraft or airstrikes were mentioned as the cause of dead and destruction in Rifai neighbourhood.
Presently no further details are known.

Attached to this civilian harm incident is a provisional reconciliation of the Pentagon's declassified assessment of this civilian harm allegation, based on matching date and locational information.
The declassified documents were obtained by Azmat Khan and the New York Times through Freedom of Information requests and lawsuits filed since March 2017, and are included alongside the corresponding press release published by the Pentagon. Airwars is currently analysing the contents of each file, and will update our own assessments accordingly.

After a review of available information it was assessed that no Coalition strikes were conducted in the geographical area that correspond to the report of civilian casualties.
Original strike reports
For May 10th-11th, the Coalition reported: “Near Mosul, three strikes engaged three ISIS tactical units; destroyed five rocket-propelled grenade systems, three fighting positions, three mortar systems, two vehicles, an ISIS staging area, a command and control node, a weapons cache; damaged 18 ISIS supply routes, three fighting positions; and suppressed two ISIS tactical units.”
