On May 14th, 2024, three people were reportedly killed, including a nine-year-old child, in an alleged Israeli artillery shelling near al-Houja (al-Hawja) street in Jabalia Refugee Camp, north of the Gaza Strip.
Local sources, including @Adham Samir Haboub and @Mahmoud A.Haboub, identified two of those killed as 51-year-old Imad Haboub (Abu Mahmoud) and his nine-year-old grandson Imad Mahmoud Haboub. @Ahmed Al-Sidawi also reported on the incident and identified Bara’a al-Sidawi as killed.
@Ahmed Al-Sidawi included images and posted a tribute on Facebook saying: “This is my brother Bara’a, a memorizer of the Quran, a noble brother, a loyal friend, and a neighbor whom our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, commended. And to the north is my neighbor and friend, Abu Mahmoud Ammar Haboub. A concrete wall separates us, not strong enough, but our love for one another in the camp is stronger than this wall. We live together in the camp’s alleyways, embraced by its streets, which speak of kindness and compassion. Today, Bara’a, Abu Mahmoud, and his grandson Imad were martyred in front of our house by a missile that made no distinction between them.”
Other family members remarked on the depth of the family’s loss, writing that with their deaths, Imad and Imad Mahmoud had “joined the caravan of martyrs of our family.”
@PalinfoAr, “The rose of Palestine post” and @paldf also reported on the incident, stating that two members of the Haboub family, a “father and his young son” had been killed in an artillery shelling. However, reports from sources closer to the family specified that Imad was the grandfather of the younger Imad.
News sources included an image of two bodies in body bags surrounded by a small group of men.
Both Imad and Imad Mahmoud were matched with the sixth publication of the Ministry of Health’s List of Fatalities in Gaza, released 15 September 2024.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli forces.
