On the morning of Monday, 2 March 2026, several sources cited Lebanese news outlet Al-Mayadeen in reporting that at least one civilian woman was killed and five to ten others were wounded following an alleged Israeli airstrike on a building in the town of Hosh Al-Rafqa in the West of Baalbek District, Eastern Lebanon.
Twitter/X account @almodononline was the first to report the incident at 10:51 a.m., followed by similar reports by @tafasillb. The image shared soon after the first report by @almodononline showed a large explosion or impact in a semi-urban area. A thick column of grey smoke is seen rising high into the sky from a point on the ground, spreading outward near the base. A video shared by @tafasillb showed a heavily damaged building and piles of rubble on the ground.
Additional local sources reporting on the incident provided varying numbers with regard to civilian injuries. A correspondent for Lebanese news outlet Al-Akhbar reported that there were casualties following an airstrike in the area, without providing further details. @qudsn and @mayadeenlebanon on Twitter/X and reported one casualty and five injuries.
Meanwhile, Hadi Hussein Shukr, a journalist and news correspondent for Iraqi news outlet I News TV, who was present in the area shortly after the airstrike, recorded the number of wounded individuals to have reached ten. He stated that the search for those who remained stuck in the rubble of the building continued. None of the sources reporting on this incident provided the names of the affected civilians.
In an interview published by Syrian news outlet Telepress on 17 March, 2026, a woman, resident of Hawsh al-Rafka, whose sister was allegedly killed in the strike, stated: “Israel threatened the entire village, and if they threaten all Shiites, we are ready to sacrifice our lives, our money, and our children for the sake of the resistance […] And to the authorities, you will never take a single weapon from us […] There was no member of Hezbollah in the building, nor were there any weapons. A blind person, an employee from the American university, and an employee from the Lebanese army lived in the building.”
Images and videos of the incident show the remains of the building that was targeted by the strike, which was largely reduced to rubble. Sources reported the building to have been between four and seven floors.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
