Airwars Assessment
On the morning of Monday, March 2, 2026, a young man, Reda Roumieh, from the southern town of Ma’raka, was killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike on an apartment in a residential building in the Al-Jammous area in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon. While an image posted on social media showed him holding a gun, there was no clear indication he was a member of Hezbollah or another militant group, so he has been classified as a civilian unless further evidence emerges.
On Facebook Abbas Noun, Reda Roumieh’s brother or close friend, confirmed Roumieh’s death with “immense pride and deep sorrow,” acknowledging that in his absence he left “in our hearts the pain of separation and the pride of sacrifice.” Accompanying Abbas’ post was a video compilation showing images of Reda. The first image shows Reda sitting next to a friend. Both men have shisha pipes in one hand and rifles in the other. The man sitting next to Reda wears camouflage pants and military-style shoes, while Reda wears all black.
Airwars’ methodology outlines how an image of someone with a firearm on it’s own is not necessarily evidence enough to record someone as a militant. As Airwars collected a number of tributes shared in honour of Reda, none of which referred to him in a way to suggest militancy, he has been recorded as a civilian. This will be updated should additional information become available.
Other mourners included photographs of Roumieh, who was bearded and brown-haired, and prayed that he be “be granted Paradise.”
@Thisislebnews posted videos on X showing the damage caused by the airstrikes in Al-Jammous, while @SaadSh1ingali and @Al-Mahwar News specified that the airstrikes were conducted by the Israeli military.
@Jawad Shokor added that cars parked below the building as well as on buildings surrounding the targeted building were damaged in the airstrike. Further imagery showed a blaze in the top floor of the multi-storey building.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
