Airwars Assessment
On the morning of March 2, 2026, a 23-year-old Lebanese paramedic, Hussein Ibrahim Fares, was killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the town of Wadi Jilo in southern Lebanon.
@Wadi Press on Facebook characterised him as a “dedicated volunteer at the Wadi Jilo Center, known for his devotion and unwavering readiness to answer the call of duty in the most difficult circumstances.”
The Islamic Message Scouts also mourned the death of Hussein, writing that he was born in Nahla on January 8, 2003, and adding his image with the emblem of the Al-Risala Association for Health Aid. He was a young man with styled dark hair and a short dark beard, wearing a khaki emergency-response outfit in the image.
A series of images posted by @Wadi Press on Facebook also showed Hussein standing near an ambulance and a fire truck marked with the symbols of the Al-Risala Association for Health Aid.
On March 4th, Twitter/X user Ahmadhamieh313 posted a video showing clips from Hussein’s funeral. The video includes scenes showing Hussein’s lifeless face peering out of his white shroud, his shrouded body being carried to a car by fellow paramedics, and his coffin being shrouded in an Amal movement flag.
Al-Risala is a civil defence group that is associated with the AMAL movement. As Al-Risala serves as a civil defense group, and there is no indication of militant activity, Hussein Ibrahim Fares has been counted as a civilian. This will be updated should additional information become available.
A video shared to Facebook on March 2 by Almodon is shot from inside a car driving down a road in Wadi Jilo. At 0:16 of the 21 second video the car slows just before an overhead bridge, as traffic appears. The driver maneuvers the car to show that two white vans, perhaps ambulances, are stopped just past the bridge. It’s unclear whether a car was struck and/or whether the scene depicted is the one in which Hussein was killed. Still, as the video is captioned “Israeli raid on Wadi Jilo”, it has been included for reference.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the airstrike to the Israeli military, many also referring to it as a “raid.”
