Airwars assessment

Between three and five civilians including up two women and two men (from one family, according to some sources) were reportedly killed in an alleged Russian or Assad regime airstrike on Deir Ezzor.

According to Euphrates Post, “Russian warplane raids targeted al Takaya street, andal Ardi and the al Hamidiya neighbourhoods, which led to the complete collapse of two homes near the children’s hospital. There is new about a massacre of civilians”.

The Syrian Press Center reported: “a massive air campaign was launched on Monday [Jan 23rd] in the city of Deir al-Zour under the control of the state organization, which led to the death and injury of civilians.

“Activists said that the Russian air force conducted several air raids in the cemetery area, Al-Takaya Street, Al-Aridi and Al-Hamidiya in Deir Al-Zour, causing extensive destruction in residential buildings amid news of martyrs and wounded in Hamidiya.”

Sharqiya__voice  5 and JIsrtv noted that five people from one family died in Al Takaya street – though these sources didn’t identify the culprit.

Most reports attributed this event to Russia, though the Syrian Network for Human Rights – said that regime warplanes had killed “three civilians, including a woman”.
