Airwars assessment

There were an unspecific number of civilian deaths and wounded, in an air and artillery strike which targeted the Grand Mosque of Al-Zahra in Anadan, Aleppo, according to local media. Sources were conflicted as to who was to blame. Some blamed the Syrian regime, while others blamed Russia for the strikes.

Sources reported that surface to surface missiles were used in the raid, as were mortar shells, rocket propelled grenade launchers and general artillery shelling. Step news reported that phosphorous bombs were used – they are internationally banned.

According to Smart News, “field activists said that Russian warplanes attacked the city of ‘Adnan with rocket-propelled grenades and mortar shells, followed by heavy artillery and surface-to-surface missiles, causing several civilian casualties, as well as fire.”
