Eight to twelve civilians were reported killed in airstrikes on Ma`ar Shourien, Idlib, on July 16th. According to Step News, “the aircraft ‘Sukhoi 22’ targeted the town south of Idlib rocket-propelled grenades, killing 12 civilians, including children, and wounding other civilians”. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that three children under the age of 18 were killed in the attack.

Macro Media Center alleged “12 martyrs and more than 15 injured” in the attack, elsewhere stating that dozens had been injured and martyred. Ariha Today cited eight killed in the incident.

Syria u.a.d. stated that there were “more than 30 martyrs and wounded by the airstrike by the military aircraft of the regime on the market of Ma’arshourien, in the south of Idlib.”

Shaam News documented “nine civilians killed as a result of initial injuries, and others injured on Tuesday by aerial bombardment on the village of Ma’ar shourein in the eastern countryside of Idlib”, “amid the silence of the world”.

The same source reported that “activists said that Al-Assad military aircraft targeted civilian houses in the village of Ma’ar shourein, east of Ma’arat al-Nu’man, in several raids, which left a massacre of civilians. The civil defense teams recovered nine martyrs and wounded several others.”

Among the victims was a child who was identified by Syrian Network for Human Rights. The source reported that “at least 11 civilians were killed as Syrian regime fixed- wing warplanes fired missiles on several areas (the public square, al Janoubiya square and al Janoubi neighborhood)”.

Four sources attributed the attack to the Syrian regime, and one source named Russia as the belligerent responsible for the airstrike. Meanwhile, four sources did not positively attribute blame, and another named both Russian forces and the Syrian regime in reporting the incident.

Days after the incident, Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that another civilian, Mohammad Fuad Abdul Hafez, died on July 19th due to wounds sustained on July 16th in Ma`ar Shourien.
