On June 14th, 2023 a husband and wife were injured in alleged Syrian regime and/or Russian artillery shelling in Afes, east of Idlib.

As reported by Orient News, the artillery fire affected nearby towns such as Maarat al-Naasan and Kansafra, and other areas nearby Idlib and Hama, although no sources have reported any civilian casualties. Orient News reports this artillery strike coincided with heavy overflights from Russian forces, but alleges they were not actually responsible for any strikes; Almohrar alleged Russian forces were responsible, while the Syrian News Agency reported that it was a joint operation. Several other sources alleged that Syrian regime forces were responsible, including Aleppo News, Shaam News, and the Syria Observatory for Human Rights.
