On August 6th 2022, a young man, Nour al-Din Hussein al-Zweidi, aged between 18 and 21, was killed when a reported Israeli forces shell hit a group of people outside a house in Beit Hanoun, in the northwest Gaza Strip at around 3.45pm or 3.55pm. According to local sources, he was announced dead at 6.20pm by medical sources at the Palestinian Ministry of Health. One other civilian was reported injured and also taken to al-Shifa Hospital.
Mondoweiss reported that Nour was sitting outside on his family’s street just five meters away from his home with his neighbor when the strike occurred, killing him and his neighbor, Salah Shehadeh. His father Hussein told Mondoweiss that Nour went outside for fresh air after the neighborhood lost power and had been talking to Nour when the strike occurred.
The injured were reported to have sustained shrapnel wounds.
The strike was reportedly located outside the house of Hussein Ali Al-Zweidi, the family house of Nour.
There were also reports that Salah Shehadeh, a militant from the Al-Qassam Brigades was injured or killed in his attack, but his condition was not confirmed by the Al-Qassam Brigades. However, Salah’s wife Najwa Shahada told Mondoweiss that he was killed, leaving behind five kids, and “He was our supporter, I was always pushing him to go out and get food for the family, and he listened. Sometimes he would come back with something, and other times he wasn’t as successful. But he was there to share with me the responsibility of the family. Now I wonder to whom I should go to get my family food.”
All of the sources that reported on this incident attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.
