Three civilians – a father, mother, and their only child, a boy aged eight years – were killed by an alleged Israeli drone strike on an agricultural water well building in Shahrak-e Do Kuheh, Andimeshk, Iran, on June 20th, 2025.
According to the Iranian Students’ News Agency, Gholam Abbas Mousavi and his wife Siahgis Mousavi, along with their eight-year-old son Armin Mousavi, were guarding the well when the drone strike occurred.
Fars News reported on the killing of the members of the Mousavi family and included images from the scene of the attack showing dried blood and a small doll in the dirt, writing “this was not a battlefield, not a military trench, it was just a wall next to a well, a simple place in the Andimeshk mountains…They had neither weapons nor uniforms. They had just spent the night in the shade of the walls of that well so that his father, as always, could take care of the water for the people of the region.” According to Fars News, Gholam was “a man of halal eating, simplicity, nomadism, and faith” and that he descended from the nomads of Lorestan while his wife Siahgis was a housewife, described as “calm, pious, silent, and unassuming.” Gholam’s sister told Fars News that “My brother was so kind that I have no bad memories of him. That’s all that bothers me. I wish he had said something at least once, frowned. He was so good that when I see his picture, I feel a pang of anger. I just tell him why were you so oppressed? How did you love our mother so much?” Gholam’s brother with whom he was very close and sometimes confused as twins described the shock and pain he was feeling describing their last interaction as “It was eleven o’clock at night when he called. We talked. Armin picked up the phone, heard my child’s voice, and was happy. The next day my phone rang and they announced that my brother and his family were flying. I didn’t know what to do. I lost my limbs. By the time I got there, it was over.”
Gholam’s brother further described what happened during the attack to Fars News: according to him, the “guided missile” hit the ceiling of the room that Siahgis was, grimly adding that “nothing was left of her.” Gholam and his son were in the back of the room laying side by side – Gholam had been hit in the head with a rock, while Armin suffered a cut to his chest and harm to his eyes. In describing the pain in the aftermath of his loss, Gholam’s brother said “I can’t even look at that road anymore. Since that day, I haven’t even passed the Dokuhe road.”
It was reported by the Iranian Students’ News Agency and the Basij News Agency that the victims were buried the following day, Saturday, June 21, in the presence of a group of people and officials in Behesht Zahra Dokuheh, Andimeshk.
The Iranian Students’ News Agency also reported that the Director General of Khuzestan’s Tribal Affairs, Eskandar Mousavizadeh, visited the home of the deceased in Andimeshk city and met with the family of the deceased. He added that his presence was “to honour the status of the martyrs and to honour the values that these loved ones sacrificed their lives for.”
Photos of the child with toys and stationery, as well as photos of his parents, were posted on multiple online platforms.
A video published by Fars News shows the extensive damage at the site of the attack in which the water well is visible and surrounded by rubble, with what appear to be agricultural fields visible in the distance.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military. In an interview with Fars News, Gholam’s brother specified that while the well guardhouse “was on the outskirts of the barracks, but it was not the target of any military operation”.
