Airwars Assessment
Several people were reportedly killed and injured by an alleged Israeli “double-tap” strike at around noon on 14 October 2024, in Ain Bourday, a village adjacent to the city of Baalbek in Lebanon. This happened while a group of people were carrying out rescue operations on a site that, shortly before, had been hit by an alleged Israeli airstrike.
According to @chadifaraj on Twitter/X, the people who were rescuing the victims of the first strike were hit by a second explosion. While most sources mentioned that there were “casualties,” the Twitter/X user @jaleannews mentioned that civilians were killed and injured during the strike on Ain Bourday.
Several accounts, such as @Ertikaznews on Twitter/X, posted a video showing the alleged strike site. The man filming walks back and sideways and says, “They targeted for the second time, the guys were carrying people.” The video briefly shows the man’s black shoes, white pants, and his shadow.
Twitter/X user @madfajy wrote of “a new massacre against Lebanese civilians”, and @bekafi_com wrote that “there is information about a number of civilian casualties.” This assessment will be updated if more information about the victims emerges.
Most sources posted between 12:24 and 14:30 p.m. local time. As the first source came online at 12:24, this incident has been recorded as occuring at approximately noon. Additionally, Al Jazeera Channel posted a video to Youtube at 1:00 p.m. local time, reporting from Ain Bourday on a number of alleged Israeli strikes in the area. At 0:31, the correspondent points and says that “An Israeli drone struck the hills of this town twice.” Given the match in time, location, and number of strikes – the correspondent may have been referring to this incident. For that reason, the Al Jazeera source has been included in this incident. This will be updated should additional information become available.
No source mentioned a precise number of people present at the site at the moment of the alleged strike, nor the number of casualties resulting from the double-tap strike.
When sources referred to a belligerent, they named the Israeli military as the party responsible for carrying out the airstrike.
