Airwars Assessment
On the afternoon of 16 October 2024, two paramedics sustained minor injuries from an alleged Israeli drone strike on the village of Jouaiya in the Tyre district of Southern Lebanon. The paramedics, members of the Lebanese Red Cross, were reported to be in the midst of search and rescue operations, in conjunction with UNIFIL, at the time of the strike.
Jouaiya had been subject to prior airstrikes: the Lebanese Red Cross specified that two Red Cross vehicles arrived at the scene of an earlier airstrike at 4:52 p.m., to “search for the injured in order to treat and rescue them.” The team was hit by a second strike twenty minutes later, at 5:10. The paramedics sustained injuries from the shrapnel, which were deemed minor and “not cause for concern.” Both were taken to the Jabal Amal Hospital.
Although both paramedics wear bandages, photographs indicate that the men appear to be in good health.
John Mikhael on Facebook shared photos of both men, one of whom has a bandaged elbow, and one a bandaged hand. Facebook user Wadi Press posted a picture of the injured, smiling, with three of their colleagues.
All sources mentioning the belligerent refer to Israel as having carried out the strikes.
