Last Updated: December 24, 2025

On Monday, November 17th, 2025, at least two Lebanese soldiers were reportedly killed and two injured following an alleged Israeli airstrike on an army post in the town of al-Mari in the Hasbaya District of Lebanon. Because the Lebanese military is not a direct party to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, victims are considered civilians in this assessment.

On Twitter/X, @Sa7atPlB mentioned that “3 soldiers were killed” while Akhbarkum cited a tweet of the Lebanese army initially asserting that one person was killed and three people were injured, “one of whom” was “in critical condition,” before later confirming his death. However, the Lebanese Army Official Facebook account only reported the deaths of two soldiers: First Lieutenant Bassam Ahmed Al-Zakhouri and First Corporal Muhammad Abdul Hadi Muhammad Hussein.

According to Akhbarkum, Bassam Ahmed al-Zakhouri, a First Lieutenant in the Seventh Brigade, died from injuries sustained in the attack. The Lebanese army official post shared a short biography of Lieutenant Bassam Ahmed Al-Zakhouri, who was originally from Batarmaz village in Minieh-Danniyeh District of the North Governorate. He was reportedly 37 years old at the time of the incident, married, and residing in the Arqa area. Images shared by @terekmaninoura and Nadine.mouhasse show him with deep blue eyes and short hair. He voluntarily enrolled as trainee soldier on February 5, 2008, gaining praise by the Army Commander on several occasions, receiving commendation and congratulations. Online users @terekmaninoura and Mahmoud Ahmad Sief, from the same region as Bassam, shared their grief and condolences.

Muhammad Abdul Hadi Muhammad Hussein from Mishmesh, Akkar Governorate, was also married and had turned 46 two days before the incident. Images posted online by Bintjbeil on Facebook depict a grey-haired man with a plump face. He also joined the army as a volunteer trainee on December 26, 2009, earning the commendation and congratulations of the Army Commander on several occasions since.

Their bodies were transferred the following day, at 9:00 a.m., from the Central Military Hospital to their hometowns, where they were buried after prayers and burials were held.

Multiple sources, such as @Chokr14Sayed and Akhbarkum, emphasize that the Lebanese military center was “directly” targeted by the Israeli forces, referencing a tweet by the Lebanese army. Most sources reported the incident occurred in the town of al-Mary, but Facebook user Mahmoud Ahmad Sief specified that the center was located in the outskirts of the city.

On Twitter/X, @arab48website and @fouadkhreiss shared images taken in the aftermath of the attack, showing tanks and fires at the base, with thick plumes of smoke rising into the air.

Where sources identified a belligerent, all attributed responsibility to the Israeli army.
