Airwars assessment
On the morning of Monday, September 23rd 2024, a number of civilians were reportedly killed and injured as a result of an alleged Israeli airstrike on the house of Hassan Ibrahim in the town of Labaya in Western Bekaa, Lebanon.
Numerous news agencies and social media users reported on “martyrs and injured” after the alleged Israeli airstrikes in western Bekaa, and specifically the towns of Labaya, Yahmrous Hamr and Sahmor. At the time of writing, no sources provided an exact number of victims in Labaya. As such, and in line with Airwars methodology relating to sources referencing “a number of” individuals, the number of civilians killed and injured are coded as two.
According to Elnashra news, a residential house was destroyed in the alleged attack. Media Press Lebanon reported that the house belonged to Hassan Ibrahim, though there was little information about Hassan online.
Posting to Twitter/X, user @akhbaralyawm shared photos depicting areas that were struck during different points in the day. A thick cloud of dark smoke rising over a dense gathering of residential buildings, situated on a hill, seems to be associated with the incident involving Hassan’s home. That said, it is possible that one of the three other images shared by @akhbaralyawm is tied to this particular strike. One of these three images shared by @akhbaralyawm depicts a more rural scene, with a residential building to the left of the frame, a large plume of dark smoke coming from an area obscured from view by a tree, and a political poster, potentially associated with AMAL, situated to the left of the frame.
Though AMAL is a political party that maintains a relationship with Hezbollah, both provide social services, and the presence of such political imagery is insufficient in line with Airwars’ methodology to determine militant presence in any given area.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
The incident occured in the morning.
The victims were named as:
Family members
