Airwars assessment
On Monday, September 23, 2024, several people were reportedly injured, including civil defense members, by an alleged Israeli airstrike against civil defense ambulance teams in Al-Duwair in the Nabatieh District in southern Lebanon.
Several sources, including Ali Khalid, reported on Facebook and Twitter/X that “civil defense members” in Al-Duwair were hit. Other sources, such as the Al-Muharrar News Network, specified on Facebook that the incident involved “civil defense ambulance teams.” Twitter/X user @mhmdjaber89 detailed online that the civil defence ambulance teams were “affiliated with the Islamic Message Scouts Association.”
The exact number of victims was not specified. However, whenever victims were mentioned, the plural form was used, indicating multiple individuals were affected. @Lebanon24 and the Facebook page Lebanon now reported about “injuries among civil defense members.” This was corroborated by Facebook posts from Nadine M Malty and Ali Khalid, both of whom reported injuries resulting from the attack. There is no additional information on the identity of those injured.
A widely circulated video allegedly captured the immediate aftermath of the strike, showing chaotic scenes with people shouting amidst debris scattered across the street. A man is seen running from a building, gesturing behind him, while others rush from the other side towards the person filming, standing near to an ambulance. Due to the heavy dust and smoke, it is difficult to view the target of the attack. The ambulance in the video appears to have sustained damage, including at least one broken window, but it is unclear from the footage whether anyone was inside the vehicle at the time of the attack.
Most sources reported about the “bombing” of the civil defense ambulance teams or described the teams as having been “targeted.” Facebook user Lebanos and Twitter/X user @Lebanon24 mentioned a “raid,” while Echo of Dahieh on Telegram attributed the incident to “airstrikes.”
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the attack to the Israeli Military. Facebook users Ali Khalid and Lebanon Now, directly wrote about an “Israeli raid,” while others referenced an “[Israeli] targeting.”
Regarding the specific area of the incident, many sources reported that the incident happened in the village of Al-Duwair in the Nabatieh District in southern Lebanon.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
