A young paramedic was killed alongside two other civilians, including at least one child, in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the town of Al-Zarariyya in southern Lebanon on September 23, 2024.
Social media posts on September 23 and 24, 2024, shared details of the airstrike in Al-Zarariyya (Zrarieh), Lebanon, reporting casualties and providing updates on those affected, including one child.
On September 23rd, Facebook user Zorkot Moussa posted about the deaths of a young man or teenager Muhammad Fawzi Zarqat, and a young man, paramedic Muhammad Abdul-Ridha Marwa in Al-Zarariyya, Lebanon. The following day, the Facebook user Adnan.jezzini provided more details, reporting on the three deaths: Ali Hussein Hashem (child), Muhammad Fawzi Zarqat, and Muhammad Abdul-Ridha Marwa, and reported on the casualties in the community and damage to homes because of the airstrike. A post from Zarariyya News identified three deaths from the strike, including two children.
Paramedic Muhammad Abdul-Ridha Marwa was a young man with a short beard. Muhammad Fawzi Zarqat was a young man or teenager pictured dressed in a black jacket.
On X/Twitter, various users shared updates about the incident in Al-Zarariyya. @YasmeenElsay3 tweeted about the bombing in Al-Zarariyya, south Lebanon, while @younisalsragi, @ABKt198990, and @janoub24website posted videos showing the air raid. @DhaineYahi95343 and @zezebaydoun reported the death of paramedic Muhammad Abdul-Ridha Marwa, confirmed also by the Telegram user Echo of Dahieh Page. On September 24, @janoub24website posted a video with the scenes from a house targeted in Al-Zarariyeh.
@linas73 tweeted about the initial search for Ali Hussein Hashem in hospitals, describing Ali as wearing a green sweater and black shorts when he was last seen, along with an image of a young boy smiling. Later that day, @zezebaydoun confirmed that Ali had been found dead. Ali had brown eyes, black curly hair and was pictured in a black Adidas shirt with a chocolate cake in his hands.
Zarariyya News posted about the funeral of Muhammad Fawzi Zarqat, along with images of Muhammad’s body and loved ones paying their respects. The images show a Hezbollah flag wrapped around the coffin of the deceased. While Hezbollah operates an active militant wing, their political presence is also deeply enmeshed within the state, providing social and organisational services, primarily in the Shia majority areas in Southern Lebanon, the Beqaa Valley, and the suburbs of Beirut. With this context in mind, Airwars is not considering a flag on a Hezbollah flag on a coffin to indicate that an individual was a Hezbollah militant. Muhammad Fawzi Zarqat has therefore been counted as a civilian.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
