Airwars assessment
Around 6am on Monday, 23 September 2024, one civilian was likely killed and at least three others injured in alleged Israeli strikes on the town of al-Malikiyah, the Butam Mountains, and the surrounding areas in the Tyre district of Lebanon’s South Governorate.
An adult man Adnan Reda was reportedly injured in the alleged Israeli attack on the town. A Facebook account called ‘Al-malkieh’ named the victim and posted a photo of him, a middle-aged man with his head bandaged outside of the hospital. Adnan was referred to as Hajj Abu Ali Adnan Reda in the post.
Multiple sources reported that four people were injured specifically in al-Malikiyah. Further sources, including El Watan News, reported that in the wider southern Lebanon area (Al-Malikiyah, the Butm Mountains, and the areas surrounding Tyre district), 13 people had been wounded that day as a result of alleged Israeli raids. It is unclear if these injuries are included in other incidents, so this has been included only in the upper injury toll to avoid duplication. Elnashra News, referring to the Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health, reported that all the injuries were minor.
Footage shared on Twitter/X by various accounts showed huge plumes of yellowish smoke rising from multiple locations. One video captured a missile making an impact near the person filming, throwing dirt and debris high into the air.
One post by Twitter/X user @YeniSafakArabic reported one person dead and three wounded as a result of the raid in al-Malikiyah. This was the only source to report a death as a result of the alleged Israeli airstrikes.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
The incident occured at approximately 6:00 am local time.
The victims were named as:
