Airwars assessment

On September 24, 2024, 27 civilians were killed – including women, children and one infant – after an alleged Israeli bombardment into the town of Boudai, in Lebanon’s Bekaa region. The exact details of the operation that led to the civilian casualties is unknown.

Saeed Muhammad Shams was killed, as were other members of the Shams family, including Mirna Hussein Shams, Enaya Ali Shams, Ghadeer Dhulfaqar Shams, Hussein Hassan Shams, and Rahaf Mahmoud Shams. Jumana Ali Shams was killed with her two sons, Hassan Akram Shams and Ali Akram Shams. Children Mohammed Mahmoud Shams, Ali Mahmoud Shams, Fatima Mahmoud Shams, Muhammad Dhulfaqar Shams, and Reda Dhulfaqar Shams were also killed.

In a post to Facebook, the Modern Lebanese Union High School mourned the death of their teacher Jumana Shams, and her two children, Hassan Akram Shams and Ali Akram Shams, and her nephew Reda Dhu al-Fiqar Shams. Hassan, Ali and Reda were all students of the school. The author of the post talked of the “great sadness and sorrow” caused by the incident. A photo collage was attached, showing the boys, all of whom appear under 15, and Jumana.

Facebook user Ali posted in remembrance of Muhammad, Ali and Fatima Mahmoud Shams, attaching photographs of the young children. Ali is the youngest, appearing to be a toddler.

Four members of the Murad family were also reported killed: Jawad Murad, Hadi Murad, Mohammed Murad, and Hussein Mohammed Murad.

From the Mustafa family, Nahia Ibrahim Mustafa was killed with Ahmad Mustafa, and an infant, Muhammad Ali Mustafa.

Sarah Hussein Nasif was killed as was Batoul Mahmoud Nasif, Asmahan Ali Nasif, and Rasha Ali Nasif. Umm Ali Asaf was also killed, as was Rawya Ali Suhail.

Early posts about the incident reported that 22 civilians had been killed. In a post to Facebook, @Adnan Shamas listed 22 victims of the “Israeli massacres in the town of Boudai in the Bekaa”. Later accounts increased the number of those killed to 26, adding the names of Jawad Murad, Hadi Murad and Mohammed Murad and Hussein Mohammed Murad to the list. Fatima Mahmoud Shams was included by Facebook users Ali and Moayyed, bringing the number of identified victims to 27.

In another post, Yousef Shamas posted a video compilation of the deceased. Amongst the images of the deceased are wedding photos, selfies and snapshots into the everyday lives of the victims. The caption to the post reads, “here is the ascension of martyrs, and the homeland of the honourable”.

Facebook user Yusef attached a photograph of burial plots being built. In the photo, 13 can be seen.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.

The local time of the incident is unknown.
