During the evening of Thursday, September 26th, 2024, an alleged airstrike by Israeli forces reportedly killed and injured an unknown number of people in the town of Sarein, southern Lebanon.
Sources like Quds News Network reported that there were “150 raids in one night” in Sarein on the 26th, with Facebook users like Elie Chamoun resharing video clips shot by residents from throughout the town, showing smoke plumes in different areas. Airwars was not able to distinguish distinct incidents of harm from the many reported strikes in Sarein, as such, all attributions of harm in strikes in Sarein are included in this incident. This incident will be broken into discreet incidents of harm should additional information become available.
A video shared by Al Jazeera showed the damage reportedly wrought by the strike. Al Jazeera correspondent Catherine Hanna reported from the site of a strike, saying that there were “a large number of injuries and victims” as a result of the strikes in Sarein. Lebanon News and Al-Qahera News reported deaths and injuries, though neither source provided more specific information.
A Facebook post from Area Net, posted on September 27, said that “families lost their entire homes and sources of livelihood” in the strikes on Sarein. The post added that “The women in Sarein were at the forefront of providing assistance, whether it was administering first aid or caring for the displaced children.” The post concluded that the “scattered” strikes had destroyed nearly half of the town’s residences, adding that those who stayed “didn’t know the taste of sleep.”
Sources such as Al Jazeera and Al-Ahed News website identified the Israeli military as the belligerent.
