At least six people, all members of the Jaafar family, including three women, were reportedly killed and at least one more person injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on the home of Muhammad Hassan Jaafar, located in the Shanbouq area of Qoubaiyat in the Akkar governorate of Lebanon on the afternoon of Tuesday 26th November 2024.

Whilst six individuals were identified to have been killed in the incident by sources including family members, the Lebanese Civil Defense organisation initially reported that it was retrieving seven bodies from beneath the rubble, and searching for further missing persons.

Meanwhile, whilst the Lebanese Civil Defense initially reported one injury from the strike, other sources, such as the Facebook page Tripoli One, reported multiple injuries.

Those killed in the incident were named on Facebook, by family members such as Dr. Ali Daher Jaafar as Shamel Saeed Jaafar (Abu Raed), Muhammad Hassan Jaafar (Abu Mustafa), and Mahdi Hassan Jaafar (Abu Hassan). These three men were shown in photographs to be middle-aged. Meanwhile, also killed in the incident were Shaheeda Hassan Jaafar and her two daughters, Anwar Attia Jaafar and the young lawyer Fatima Attia Jaafar.

Family members and friends mourned those killed in the incident on social media. Dr. Ali Daher Jaafar, for example, wrote that “Six moons have gone.”

Nabi Shamel Jaafar posted on Facebook, “My relatives are martyrs and my father is among them. We say only what pleases God. To God we belong and to Him we shall return. Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds.”

Meanwhile, Heyam Jaafar mourned Shamel Saeed Jaafar, writing, “To the spacious gardens of the Lord of the Worlds, Abu Raed… I will miss your morning, your kind words, your love, and your pride in your family. God chose you and honored you as a martyr… May God have mercy on you and inspire us, all our family, your loved ones, and your small family with patience and solace…”

The Lebanese Legal Forum, also writing on Facebook, posted a short tribute to Fatima Attia Jaafar, “Friends of law student Fatima Jaafar mourn her, and sadness surrounds the Faculty of Law at the Lebanese University, Zahle branch, with the news of her martyrdom before the ceasefire.” The post was accompanied by a picture of Fatima Attia Jaafar holding a legal diploma.

Sources such as Tripoli One reported that those injured in the incident were transported to the Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Qoubaiyat.

According to time-stamped security camera footage of the incident, posted by Akhbar Albiqaa, the strike occurred at 16:18. The footage showed the moment of the strike, which caused a powerful fiery explosion.

All sources which attributed the strike to a specific belligerent attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
