On September 27th, 2024, the Matraba border crossing between Lebanon and Syria was hit by an alleged Israeli strike, reportedly injuring between four to eight civilians and causing a halt in the crossing’s operation.
Multiple sources reported the incident, with varying accounts of the number of individuals injured. Reports from the Homs Health Directorate and other sources indicated that at least four people were injured. However, the Alhurra News Media platform, reporting on Syrian National TV claims, stated that up to eight people were injured in the attack.
The strike, described as a series of four raids/airstrikes, resulted in the Matraba border crossing being rendered out of service. Notably, several sources specify that the crossing was hit twice on the same day, while others indicated that the strikes occurred on two consecutive days.
A Facebook account “Syria stocks” posted a number of images of the aftermath of the strike. They showed the damaged road surface, a civilian car overturned and stuck in the road, and an excavator working on the place of the incident.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military, with some reports citing the Israeli army’s statement that the attack aimed to “prevent the transfer of combat means to Hezbollah.” However, no official statement was found.
