Airwars Assessment
On Friday, September 27, 2024, at least one civilian was reportedly killed following an alleged Israeli airstrike in the vicinity of the area of the Evangelical School in the old Saraya neighbourhood in Nabatieh, Lebanon. However details of the victim were limited and therefore the civilian harm status has been graded as “weak.”
Multiple news sources, including Jezzine Tahki and Yasour, reported that Israeli warplanes carried out raids across various areas of Southern Lebanon, with the Lebanese National News Agency specifying that the old Saraya neighbourhood in Nabatieh was amongst the targets. Jezzine Tahki reported that this alleged Israeli airstrike destroyed a residential building within the vicinity of the Evangelical School in Nabatieh. This resulted in the death and “martyrdom” of one unnamed man, who had been known to be residing in this building.
Further information and the identity of the killed civilian were not disclosed in any of the sources reporting on the alleged attack.
Yasour news published photos of the aftermath of the airstrike, showing smoke rising behind residential buildings and what appears to be a church and the Evangelical School. Furthermore, a widely circulated video, shared by multiple media outlets including Voice of Lebanon, Mayadeen Lebanon and Ekher Khabar via Facebook and X, shows the effects of the airstrike on the residential building near the Evangelical School. The video shows an urban neighbourhood with residential buildings and shops that are visibly damaged. Debris is scattered throughout the surrounding area, and a collapsed building is seen next to a closed shop. Several vehicles, including ambulances, are present at the scene.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces. Given the scarce information on the victim, with only one source mentioning the casualty, the civilian harm status of the incident has been graded as “weak.”
