Airwars assessment
Muhammad Hassan Suwaidan, a doctor, was wounded after an alleged “raid” on 27 September, 2024, in the Al-Arid neighbourhood of Nabatieh; he died from his wounds the following day.
Facebook user Ali Tormos declared Muhammad a “precious youth”, and included a widely-shared photograph of Muhammad, a bearded man.
Remembered as “dear”, a burial was held the day after his death, at 11AM, in the Ain Baal cemetery.
The Facebook page for Ain-Baal News included a video of the burial. Multiple men are carrying the coffin – wrapped in a Hezbollah flag – as a other men stream behind them; others can be seen digging the plot his coffin will be placed in. Many of the men wear neon vests imprinted with the logo of Al-Risala Association for Health Aid; others wear vests declaring them members of the Islamic Health Authority. Both are civil defense groups and though associated with AMAL and Hezbollah, respectively, their presence is not unusual in the region, where Hezbollah is deeply enmeshed within the state, providing social and organisational services. For this reason, the inclusion of a Hezbollah flag on Suwaidan’s coffin does not immediately indicate Hezbollah membership. As no source indicated militancy by Suwaidan, he has been categorised as a civilian.
No source indicated a belligerent. While Airwars understands “raid” to be another term for an airstrike – and thus more likely associated with the military capabilities of the Israeli Defense Forces – this is not conclusive, especially as no source explicitly referred to an “airstrike”. As such, this incident has currently been graded as “contested”.
The local time of the incident is unknown.
