Shortly before 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 29th, 2024, an alleged airstrike by Israeli forces on a health center in the town of Qabrikha, Southern Lebanon, reportedly killed three paramedics.
Twitter/X account of Al Jazeera @AJABreaking reported the death of paramedics at 8:12 a.m., while @arabic_post – at 8:14 a.m.
Sources, including Facebook posts from Muhammad ahmad al-zein, Ali Mansour, and Mhammad Munzer identified three civilian casualties of the strike as: Riad Abdul Amir Salman, a paramedic and scout leader born in 1973, hence, aged 50 or 51; Bassem Muhammad Jaber, a paramedic and a runner; and a paramedic Ibrahim Muhammad al-Zein.
The majority of the sources, including Twitter/X accounts Palcampnews, AddiyarNews, and alafdalnews, echoed the same statement from the Civil Defense in South Lebanon reporting that seven paramedics were killed in two raids in the cities of Qabrikha and Tairdaba. According to the sources, four of them died in Tairdaba, and three, respectively, in Qabrikha. In particular, the post by Ali Mansour reads: “My town, Qabrikha, has three moons: Ibrahim Al-Zein, Riyad Salman and Bassem Jaber.”
The post was accompanied by a photo collage showing three adult men who had been killed in the incident.
The death of Riad Abdul Amir Salman was mourned by the Islamic Message Scouts Association, which emphasised in its statement that Riad was killed while performing his national and humanitarian duty in defence of Lebanon and the South.” The statement was accompanied by an image of the late Riad in a grey shirt and cap. He was a middle-aged man with large penetrating eyes and a long grey beard.
In a Facebook post by Toulin Media, Riad is seen sitting in a red vehicle.
Hanaa Jaber mourned the death of Bassem Jaber, writing, “Yesterday you were the master, and today you are, next to Hussein, the martyrs and the two friends, to the gardens of eternity, God willing.” She added an image of Bassem, who was a young man wearing a green paramedic’s vest, with a shaved head, a thick dark beard, and wearing glasses.
Mazen Shriem wrote in a memory of Bassem: “Congratulations on your martyrdom, Bassem Jaber, the sportsman and good friend,” sharing the image of Bassem crossing the finish line in a race while having the number 414.
Facebook account “Arab players pics and videos” remembered Bassem as a “great runner” whose spirit “loved athletics,” sharing his image while running, wearing the same sports jersey with the number 414.
Facebook user Kabrikha ajmal balad shared a video showing the farewell prayer near the body of Ibrahim Mahmoud Al-Zein performed by his colleagues wearing green paramedic vests.
On Facebook. Muhammad Munzer, after mourning the death of naming the three paramedics, added that the raid on Qabrikha hit “their health center”. He described the late Bassem as a “beloved and quarrelsome friend in everything, in thought, religion, politics, and even football“, adding that Bassem “stayed in the village to wash the bodies of to wash the bodies of the martyrs, pray over them, and bury them.” Muhammad referred to Ibrahim as to his relative, “calm and dignified”, and to Riad as to someone whose body was missing, but “the smile always on.”
He added the images of the three men. Ibrahim Al-Zein was a middle-aged man with short dark hair, a short grey beard, and wearing a dark jacket.
Sources, including the reported statement by the Civil Defense in South Lebanon and Lebanon News, identified the Israeli military as the belligerent.
