Airwars Assessment

Last Updated: January 6, 2026

On September 29, 2024 one civilian and one militant were killed, and one to two others wounded, in alleged Israeli strikes on the town of Al-Duwayr, Nabatieh, Lebanon. Muhammad Adnan Hoteit and Ali Hassan Diya were named among the killed, with Ali Hassan identified as a militant.

Individuals and news agencies posted across platforms to report the alleged strikes and resulting harm in Al-Duwayr. In sum, it appears that at least two homes were struck in Al-Duwayr, and two individuals were killed and one to two wounded. As Airwars has not been able to differentiate between the multiple strikes reported in Al-Duwayr, this incident refers to all reports of harm from the strikes in Al-Duwayr.

In terms of the sources, a post to Twitter/X from @AlarabyTV reported that “Israeli raids targeted two homes in the town of Al-Duwayr” and Twitter/X accounts @Sa7atPl, @kataeb_Ar, and @Alarabytv_BRK cited the Lebanese News Agency in reporting that some were “wounded” in the “Israeli raids that targeted two homes in the town of Al-Duwayr” and account @lebanonfile reported the same. One other Twitter/X account, @news_n1197, reported that “two raids targeted the town of Al-Duwayr” and there were “reports of casualties” as a result. Facebook account CivildefenseLB noted that in the Nabatieh Governorate, the civil defense had “extinguished a house fire in Al-Duwayr…transporting the body of a martyr and a wounded.” Finally, a post shared by @tathaqaf50 to Twitter/X reported “two martyrs and a number of wounded in the town of Al-Duwayr.”

Muhammad was remembered as a happy young man from Al-Duwayr. Jihaad ayoub posted to Facebook to remember Muhammad, referring to him as the “happy young martyr of Al-Duwayr.” The post included a picture of Muhamad, looking toward the sky, sun hitting the left side of his face, and smiling widely. Twitter/X user @FarahSlmh shared the same image in memory of Muhammad.

A little over two weeks after the incident, Facebook account ‘Al-Duwair, Welcome’ posted on October 14, 2024 to remember local resident Muhammad, referring to him as “a knight from the knights of Al-Duwayr” and noting that Muhammad was the grandson of Hajj Abu Salman Hoteit. Included in the post is a picture of Muhammad wearing a black Adidas jacket, smiling softly, a multi-storey home and coniferous tree visible in the background.

Ali Hassan Diya (Abu Hassan) was also reportedly killed in Al-Duwayr. Ali Hassan was remembered by Sara Ali as a “mujahed” and Hassan a mathouk and Cheikh hassan dya both posted stylised images of Ali Hassan wearing a camouflage outfit and military-style vest, sitting in a field of wildflowers. Such images are commonly shared when individuals – civilians and militants alike – are killed in Lebanon. However, given that both Sara Ali and Cheikh hassan remembered Ali as a “muhajed,” the fact that he is pictured in military-style clothing, and that Ali’s wife referred to Ali having lived a “life of jihad,” Ali has been recorded as a militant. This will be updated should additional information become available.

The reference to Ali having lived a “life of jihad” came from a page on ‘The Crossers website’ where his wife wrote a commemorative piece to her husband. In the article, Ali’s wife outlines how Ali had struggled with his health in the weeks and months leading up to his death. “In our last week before the war began, [Ali] had a doctor’s appointment at Hôtel-Dieu Hospital, and the doctor told him that the situation was unstable, and that this cirrhosis would eventually turn into cancerous lumps. Ali returned home, his secret in his heart, a radiant smile on his face, as if nothing had happened, but he hoped his life of jihad had not been in vain.”

Airwars was not able to determine the identities of those wounded. This will be updated should additional information become available.

Twitter/X account @Ahmadhamieh313 posted an image of large grey smoke plumes billowing over what appear to be residential buildings, taken from the roof of another building a block or two away. The caption reads: “From the raid on Al-Duwayr.”

Where sources named a belligerent, all sources attributed the incident to the Israeli military.
