On the morning of 1 June 2025, at least one person was killed and at least 30 others, including at least three children, were reported injured when the Israeli Military allegedly used gunfire, quadcopters, artillery shelling and airstrikes on a crowd gathered near the US and Israel backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) distribution site on Salah al-Din Street, close to Netzarim junction and the Wadi Gaza Bridge in the Gaza Strip. GHF was established as an alternative to UN-coordinated distribution mechanisms in Gaza.

Mahmoud Mohamed Ahmed Abo Hojier was reportedly killed in the attack on aid distribution and was named by local sources. According to Shehab News Agency, Mahmoud was killed as a result of gunfire from the Israeli Military when he had gone to collect aid from the center. Mahmoud’s cousin, Saed Abu Imad, reported via a post on Facebook that Mahmoud had died on Salah al-Din Street. His post wrote that Mahmoud was a hard working man who worked to provide for his family and that he had gone to the aid center that day in search of food for his children. Other posts on Facebook mourned the loss of Mahmoud, including one from an account titled Al-Bureij united us, who reported that Mahmoud was a builder and an electrician. This account also shared an image of a leaflet marking the passing of Mahmoud with a photo of him smiling, reporting that as a result of a generous donation in honour of Mahmoud fresh water had been pumped into al-Bureij refugee camp, which is where Mahmoud was from. Images were shared by Abu Ahmed Faraj Allah on Facebook of Mahmoud’s funeral procession which was attended by a large number of people.

Reports shared on social media from @Sa7atPlBreaking on Twitter/X quoting al-Awda Hospital initially reported one person dead and 18 injured, including three children, in the aftermath of the attack but @Sa7atPlBreaking later updated their casualty toll to 1 killed and 30 injured. The highest toll was provided by @kassem1271833 who reported “more than 200 martyrs and wounded” in the Netzarim axis. Shehab News shared images of injured people receiving treatment in hospital following the attack. The post sharing the images referred to the incident and the attack on the aid center as ‘death aid’.

A video shared by multiple sources on Twitter/X showed hundreds if not thousands of people gathered at the site waiting for aid suddenly running and scattering in all directions as the sound of machine gun fire can be heard in the video. TRTArabi via Twitter/X also shared a video of people in the aftermath of the attack screaming and mourning the injured and dead in the streets, including a young boy raising his arms to the sky and screaming in anguish. Palestine Refugee Portal on Facebook, shared eyewitness accounts corroborating the story that these people were civilians gathered to receive aid when the Israeli Military allegedly shot at them and bombed them. The post wrote that the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (also referred to as the ‘American Company Center’) near Netzarim Junction had “become a deadly trap set for Palestinians as part of the systematic starvation war waged.” In the video shared alongside the post a man is again seen saying that people were just going to eat and to drink when they were suddenly under fire from quadcopters and gunfire.

PalInfoAr reported via Twitter/X that Israeli snipers were positioned near to the aid centre, near an electricity company to the north of al-Nuseirat Camp. The post shared an image showing snipers hiding underneath what appeared to be a concrete ledge or ceiling. It also included a map of what their view would have supposedly been from this spot and how they could have carried out the attack near the aid centre. These images were shared widely by other sources.

Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli Military. A Facebook post from Muhammad Ali specified that there was no prior warning before the shooting started.
