Airwars Assessment
At least 10 civilians from Al-Agha family were killed, including four children and two women, and at least 15 others were wounded after an alleged Israeli airstrike hit two family homes, the al-Agha and Abu Shab residences, in the Khan Younis area of the Gaza Strip on October 11th, 2023. On February 18, 2025, Airwars updated this assessment to reflect that one member of the Al-Agha family – previously recorded as a civilian – was a militant with Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigade.
Though not all victims have been identified, 11 members of the al-Agha family were named by local sources: Amin Jabbara Falouji al-Agha, 61, and his wife, 52-year-old Sana Jihad Muhammad al-Agha (Wadi), were both killed. Their sons, 21-year-old Mamfoun Amin Jabara al-Agha, 19-year-old Waseem Amin Jabara al-Agha and 30-year-old Muhannad Amin Jabara al-Agha, were also killed. Muhannad was killed along with his wife, Hind Abdel Hamid Abdel Jawad al-Agha (27) and their two young daughters: Talin Muhannad Amin al-Agha, just over two-years-old, and Aseel Muhannad Amin al-Agha, just over one-year-old. Fifteen-year-old Sama Samer Subhi Jabara al-Agha was also killed, as was Yahya Samer Subhi Jabara al-Agha, who has been described as both 11 or 17. Based off of photos and Yahya’s age as recorded by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Yahya appears to have been 11 and Airwars has recorded his age as such. This will be updated should additional information become available.
A fourth son of Amin and Sana, 27-year-old Moamen Amin Jabara al-Agha, was also killed. On January 12, 2026, a post to Telegram by the ‘Al-Qassam Brigades correspondent’ included a martyr photo picturing and naming Moamen. The post specified that Moamen was a ‘Qassam fighter’ in the Khan Younis Brigade. As of February 2026, Moamen’s civilian status has been updated to militant.
Many peers of posted in memory and celebration of the life of Waseem Amin Jabara al-Agha. Among them, a post shared by Hamooda al fara on Facebook referred to Waseem as their “childhood friend”. Another post, shared by Hassan Eltaweel to Facebook, referred to Waseem as his friend, brother, and beloved. Hamooda then called Waseem “The hero” (البطل), a term at times used to refer to those engaged in militant activity. On February 18, 2026, Airwars revisited this incident and conducted an additional research round to see if new information had come online indicating that any members of the Al-Agha family had been involved in militant activity. Such information was sourced for Moamen, but aside from this reference to Waseem as “The hero”, Airwars did not find information indicating that he had been involved in militant activity. As such, Airwars continues to classify Waseem as a militant. This will be updated should additional information come to light.
Posting to Facebook, many celebrated young Yahya’s football successes. Yahya played for the Castle Academy. A post by Amin Wafi included photos of Yahya and his older sister Sama. Only 15-years-old, Sama is celebrated for being a “حافظة” / “hafiza” someone who’s memorised the Quran.
In one of the photos, Yahya wears glasses and appears to have a Fatah flag wrapped around his shoulders and holds another. The Fatah movement’s flag is used both in political contexts, as well as by the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, Fatah’s armed wing. At the time of writing, Airwars did not find additional information suggesting that 11-year-old Yahya (at times referred to as 17 – though images seem to show an 11-year-old), was affiliated with an militant activity. As such, he has been recorded as a civilian. This will be updated should additional information become available.
Many people posted online to remember Muhannad and Hind – who were married – as well as their two daughters, Talin and Aseel. Sharing photos of an infant girl, Aseel, and a young toddler, Talin, Mustafa Surur prayed for his “dear brother and friend, the beloved calligrapher, my brother Muhannad Al-Agha” who “passed away yesterday, along with his family, his father and mother, as a result of the brutal bombing”.
Mustafa was not the only one to highlight Muhannad’s achievements as a calligrapher. The ‘Wow Center for Arabic Calligraphy Tools’, a calligraphy center which appears to be based out of Libya, mourned Muhannad, “the Palestinian calligrapher” who was killed alongside “his entire family.” The post included a photo of a sharp and smiling Muhannad, alongside a certificate detailing Muhannad’s specialties and achievements as a calligrapher. The certificate was shared widely online.
All members of the family appear to have been inside the residences when the strike occurred, and Wafa News reported that at least eight people had been killed from each family. Though most of the deceased appear to have been identified the day of the attack, Yahya’s body was found the following day. After his body was found, it appears he was taken to Nasser Hospital before being buried.
Shehab Agency reported 16 killed and 15 others wounded; Wafa News and Saba News corroborated this death toll, with Saba News referring to “dozens” injured. Still, multiple local sources mentioned that further remains had yet to be identified.
Airwars recorded the identified victims members of Abu Shab family in another incident, coded as ISPT0124a. Though, as some sources only provided a total number of victims from both family houses, there might be some overlap between the estimated number of civilians injured in this incident and in ISPT0124a. Airwars will update both assessments once new information is available.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces. Multiple sources reported that the strike occurred without warning.
Where possible, Airwars has found named civilians among the Palestinian Ministry of Health list of names published on October 26th.
