Airwars assessment
Shortly before 8:11 PM on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, the Abu Namous family home in Jabalia Refugee Camp, north of the Gaza Strip was reportedly hit by an alleged Israeli strike. At least 13 identified civilian family members, including seven women and three children, were killed and at least five others were injured.
Twitter/X user @PSLK1154 reported about the incident at 8:11 PM, indicating that five “martyrs” from the attack on the Abu Namos family home were taken to the Indonesian hospital. At 8:53 PM the news agency Safa corroborated this information.
Later, a Facebook post by Official Qatata Youth Gathering provided the names of 14 members of the Abu Namous family who were killed in the attack and a list provided by Mahmoud Abu Yazan Abu Namous also included the names of five others who were injured.
49-year-old Sheikh Imam Ziad Muhammad Abu Namous (Abu Wael), a father and grandfather, was killed along with his wife, 55-year-old Rifaa Abu Namous, their 21-year-old daughter Sondos Ziad Muhammad Abu Namous, his 19-year-old daughter Danieh Ziad Muhammad Abu Namous, and his 28-year-old daughter-in-law, Ahlam Saeed Abu Rakab (wife of Wael).
Meanwhile, a child, the son of Sondos named Hussein Barakat was injured along with Ziad and Rifaa’s daughters Sahar Ziad Muhammad Abu Namous (moderately injured) and Samar Ziad Muhammad Abu Namous (seriously injured). Obaida Ziad Muhammad Abu Namous, Ziad and Rifaa’s son, was also injured along with his brother, Baraa Ziad Muhammad Abu Namous.
Two additional grandchildren of Ziad and Rifaa, a one-year-old child named Sham Muhammad Ziad Abu Namous was also killed in the incident along with her five-year-old brother Yahya Muhammad Ziad Abu Namous.
The second family unit was headed by 54-year-old Raafat Abu Namous (Abu Hussein) who was killed along with his son and daughter, 21-year-old Abdullah Raafat Abu Namous and 12-year-old Marwa Raafat Abu Namous.
Khalil Abu Namous remembered his “cousins and companions of the heart” Ziad, Raafat, and Abdullah, along with images of all three men.
In a Facebook post by Dr. Abu Baker Mohammed Oda Abunamous, Raafat Abu Namous was called “Major General.” Based on this information and without further details, Airwars considers him to have a contested civilian status until further information comes to light.
Raafat Abu Namous sister and Ahlam Saeed Abu Rakab’s mother 53-year-old Fatima Hussein Muhammad Abu Rakab (Abu Namous) was killed along with her children, siblings of Ahlam – her two sisters, 26-year-old Samah Saeed Abu Rakab (wife of Muhammad) and 20-year-old Amani Saeed Awad Abu Rakab, and their brother 32-year-old Shadi Saeed Awad Abu Rakab.
Adham Abbas mourned his friend Shadi, his mother, and his sisters and offered patients to Shadi’s wife for her loss. Reem Adham, sister of Shadi’s wife, also prayed for the loss of Shadi and his family.
A tweet from @2bu5aled mentioned that the strike on the Abu Namous occurred behind the Tawbah Mosque, west of Jabalia while other sources referred to the strike as occurring in Jabalia Refugee Camp.
All names of the victims have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released six lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024. Airwars matches individuals to the first list where their names appeared. In regard to this incident, names are matched to the second ‘Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza’ list, which was released on January 7th, 2024.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.

Reports of the incident mention the vicinity of Al-Tawbah Mosque (مسجدالتوبة) in the Jabalia Refugee Camp (مخيم جباليا), for which the generic coordinates are: 31.539700, 34.496700. Due to limited satellite imagery and information available to Airwars, we were unable to verify the location further.
