In the early hours of Sunday, November 12th, 2024, an alleged Israeli airstrike struck a residential apartment belonging to the Al-Amsi family in the Yarmouk building, near the Abu Khousa intersection on Al-Jalaa Street in Gaza City. At least three civilians, including two children, were killed and four others, including children, were injured.
28-year-old Marwa Abd al-Aziz Abu Amna was reportedly killed. According to family members posting on social media, Marwa was killed while sleeping at home with her family. In a tribute, her relative Ahmad Abu Amna wrote: “The elevation of my sister, the martyr of Al-Fajr / Marwa Abd al-Aziz […] after the [Israeli military] targeting her apartment and injuring her children and her husband.” Similarly, Mahmoud A J Amazzi, another relative, described the strike as occurring “while they were safely asleep in the middle of the night.” Relatives, including @atefmoq and Muahmmad Abu-Amna, noted that Marwa’s death followed the earlier deaths of her two brothers, Muhammad and Omar Abd al-Aziz Abu Amna, in previous strikes during the preceding two weeks. Marwa had written a Facebook tribute to her brothers, shared by Ahmad Abu Amna. In it, Marwa acknowledged the “separation that [the family] feared,” which led surviving relatives to contend with “endless pain.” The memory of her brothers caused “a deadly yearning and a soul-crushing longing.” Ahmed spoke to the depth of Marwa’s grief at losing her brothers: “she [had] the most sincere longing for my brother Muhammad and Omar, so God chose her to join them with his permission in Paradise.” Marwa’s close friend, Samia, found solace that in death, Marwa had “gone to heaven where she belongs.” Condolences were held the following day.
In addition to Marwa’s death, her husband Abdulrahman al-Amsi, their son Ahmed al-Amsi, their daughter Nada al-Amsi, and a relative named Ibrahim al-Amsi were all reportedly injured in the strike. In a family tribute, Mahmoud A J Amazzi wrote: “And to wish my brothers Abdulrahman, Ibrahim and my nephews (Ahmed and Nada) a speedy recovery and return safe and sound after being injured at the same place.”
Civil Defense teams worked on site to extract survivors from under the rubble. Footage shared online documented the rescue of injured individuals in the aftermath of the strike.
Visual materials shared by @atefmoq, Said El Haji, and Mahmoud al-Louh showed Civil Defense teams carrying the body of Marwa Abd al-Aziz Abu Imna al-Muqayd, as well as emergency personnel assisting injured individuals being loaded into ambulances. Additional images shared by The Activist Hamza al-Masri two children lying on the ground while being attended to by civilians. Both children, who are dust covered, appeared deceased. Neither child has been identified. According to the same source, among the injuries was one child with an amputated leg.
An image of the damaged building, reportedly struck in the incident, was also shared. Further photographs from Mahmoud al-Louh showed a man receiving medical care at a clinic, with his left foot detached from his leg. It is unclear whether this man was either Abdulrahman or Ibrahim, or an unnamed third wounded.
Marwa’s name was matched with the 8th fatality list published by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
At the time of reporting, the suspected belligerent was consistently identified across sources as the Israeli military.
