21-year-old Yahya Jamal Ali Asfour and his cousin, 20-year-old Khaled Madhat Abdul Qader Asfour were killed by an alleged Israeli bombardment in the New Abasan area of Khan Younis on 13 June 2025.
Friends and relatives expressed significant grief on social media at the loss, annoucing Yahya and Khaled’s deaths with “deep sorrow.” Family member Navel Asfour asked that “God […] shower them with His abundant mercy and grant them Paradise” and that their families would be granted “patience and solace” to combat their grief. Abu Baraa, Khaled’s uncle, praised him for having memorised the Quran, and described Yahya as “virtuous and truthful.” He was “truly saddened” by their deaths.
Facebook user Abasan al-Kabira clarified that Yahya and Khaled had been travelling to the town of Abasan al-Jadida when they were killed.
Yahya’s brother, Belal J Asfour, announced that a memorial service for Yahya and Khaled was to be held at his brother’s home in Antwerp, the weekend following their deaths.
Photographs of Yahya and Khaled belie their youth: both appear younger. Yahya wears a red hoodie while, in a separate photo, Khaled stands in front of a hedge trimmed into a heart shape.
Yahya and Khaled’s names have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza; their names appeared first in the tenth publication, released 16 July 2025. However, Yahya’s second middle name appears as “Muhammad” rather than Ali.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the attack to the Israeli military.
