On July 13, 2025, an alleged Israeli airstrike hit a home in the Abu Habib area of the Zeitoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City, killing at least two people and injuring others.
The 37-year-old journalist, Fadi Majid Mohammed Khalifa, also known as Abu Majed, was killed while inspecting his home. According to his profile on the Genocide in Gaza website, Fadi was married and worked for the Turkish Anadolu Agency.
An Al-Jazeera Mubasher correspondent reported that, in addition to Fadi’s death, the incident resulted in a number of wounded and claimed the life of another citizen. Information regarding the identity of the second victim and the exact number of injured remains unavailable, a report later echoed by the Anadolu Agency, citing medical sources. The incident was widely reported by many news outlets like Safa PS, Qudsn and the Palestinian Information Center.
Friends and family resorted to social media to express their grief and honour Fadi’s memory, sharing photos as a tribute to his memory.
Tamer al-Hayqi, a neighbour of Fadi, announced the journalist’s passing on Facebook with deep sorrow, praying for God to have mercy on him. He also posted a self-portrait of Fadi where he can be seen smiling, wearing a grey shirt with a white and gold lettering, round glasses, and his hair styled back and shaved at the sides.
Farhan Rahmi Abu Mustafa bid farewell to Abu Majed, reciting the Quranic verse: “We belong to Allah and to him we shall return”.
In a heartfelt post, Mediatawasol described Fadi as a man of perseverance and determination who had “a beautiful soul.” He remembered him as a friendly man who passed away while “dreaming of providing milk for his young child” and seeing the end of the war. Tragically, he did not live to see those dreams fulfilled.
Many more images shared online commemorated his career, showing him in the typical blue press vest with a camera in his hands.
Fadi was matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza, first appearing in the 11th publication.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
