Airwars assessment
On the 14th of September 2024, at dawn, several civilians were reportedly injured and at least three were killed following an alleged Israeli airstrike at Al Aliaa kindergarten on Al-Yafawiya street in the Al Trans area, located in Block 6 of the Jabalia refugee camp, in North Gaza, the Gaza Strip.
That same day, multiple sources reported the airstrike that hit the Al Aliaa kindergarten, which, as the Nooreldonia Newspaper wrote, “houses displaced persons in Jabalia camp, north of the Strip, killing and injuring a number of displaced persons”. @WWIIIAR further mentioned that a house near the kindergarten was also hit. Twitter/X user @BingoBuckaroo clarified that the home belonged to the “Al-Ashqar family”.
According to Jordan TV and Pheladelphianews, the incident resulted in three fatalities – all of whom remain unidentified – and according to Facebook users Salwa Abu Libdeh, Alyawmnews and Libadisyun Alnwfmbrywn Alahrar, at least three other civilians were injured. X/Twitter user @RassdNewsN shared a picture of a severely wounded child crying in a hospital, with his head bandaged and his face covered in blood and dirt.
While most sources did not provide details on those killed, Facebook user Salaheddine Jabari posted a picture of a dead girl and infant, claiming they had been killed in the “targeting of Al-Aliya Kindergarten in Jabalia camp”. Later sources, including @s_m_marandi and the Twitter/X page for the Quds News Network alleged ten people had been killed and that the strike “injured dozens more as they slept”.
Facebook user Walaa Walaa shared a video of the aftermath of the reported airstrike, in which what appears to have been the Al Aliaa kindergarten can be seen destroyed, with a rescue team looking through the rubble. @EyeonPalestine released a similar video, showing civil defence workers pulling an injured man from underneath the collapsed building, and transferring him to a stretcher.
The reporter Ahmed Abu Al Aiesh lamented on a Facebook post that Israeli forces “continued to target centres that sheltered the displaced throughout the Gaza Strip” and denounced that “the Israeli Air Force bombed the Al-Aliya kindergarten without prior warning”. In this post, he also shared a video in which he can be seen reporting the incident on site, showing additional footage of the shattered kindergarten and interviewing a man and a child about the alleged Israeli airstrike.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli Military.
The incident occured around dawn.
