Shortly before 20:34 on the evening of the 15th of July 2024, an alleged Israeli artillery attack reportedly killed two civilians, Dr. Anwar Shahada Nassar, a lecturer at the Al-Quds Open University and former director of the House of the Holy Quran and Sunnah, and his son, Ahmed Anwar Nassar, an engineer, on Al-Mufti street, north of Nuseirat Refugee Camp, in the central Gaza Strip.

According to several sources, Anwar Shahada Nassar and Ahmed Anwar Nassar arrived at Al Awda Hospital, in Nuseirat, on the evening of the 15th of July after an alleged Israeli artillery attack. Khaled Fetiha included in his Facebook post a picture of the body of Anwar Shahada Nassar.

Several family members included pictures of the two victims and mourned the death of the father and son, such as Naaser Awad, who wrote “The eye sheds tears, the heart grieves, and we are truly saddened by your departure.”

Umm Hatem Aftiha, the sister-in-law of the late Anwar, wrote: “The eye sheds tears and the heart grieves. My sister’s husband, Dr. Anwar Nassar (Abu Osama) and his dear son, the engineer (Ahmed Anwar Nassar), [we] are saddened by your departure.”

Anwar’s nephew, Dr. Moutaz Nassar, grieved the death of his uncle and cousin in a Facebook tribute: “The beloved and dear martyr, my uncle, Dr. Anwar Nassar, and his son, my companion and lifelong friend, the martyr Dr. Ahmed Nassar, have passed away to the mercy of God Almighty. We ask God for mercy and forgiveness for them and to make them dwell in the gardens of Paradise with the martyrs and prophets, O God, Amen.” He shared multiple images taken together with the deceased Anwar and his son.

Twitter/X user @Jales_tinian2 and other social media users shared a formal headshot of Dr. Anwar Nasar, a middle-aged bald man with a beard dressed in a white shirt and a suit, smiling at camera.

Former students of Dr. Anwar Shahada Nassar also mourned the death of their professor and his son, including additional pictures of the two. Ahmed Wasfy described Dr. Anwar Nassar as “My Sheikh, my love, my doctor, the father of my friends”, and Khaled Fetiha wrote “my teacher and role model, who raced for good in all situations”. Khaled added “By God, we knew you only as conservative, upright, worshipful, ascetic, and memorizers of the Book of God. Words fail to describe you.”

Twitter/X user @khalilo1 also praised his former professor, writing “I spent 4 years with you at the university, my honorable professor, and I knew you to be kind-hearted and sweet-tongued. May God have mercy on you and grant you a place in His spacious gardens.”

Where sources have identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the incident to the Israeli military, referring to an artillery shelling.
