At dawn on 18 March 2025, nine members of the Abu Marshood family were reportedly killed and one child injured when an alleged Israeli airstrike hit their home in the new camp in Nuseirat Refugee Camp in central Gaza.
52-year-old Tahani Mohammed Ahmed (Abu Marshood) and her husband 61-year-old Ahmed Mohammed Abu Marshood were both killed alongside their sons, 25-year-old Younis Ahmed Abu Marshood, 32-year-old Muhammad Ahmed Abu Marshood and 30-year-old Hani Ahmed Abu Marshood. 27-year-old Rima Mohammed Abdul Rahman, wife of Muhammad, and 25-year-old Amal Khalil Ahmed, wife of Hani, also died in the attack. One source, Yousef Labad via Facebook, added that Rima was pregnant at the time of her death, and that the fetus did not survive the incident. Tahani’s brother, Nayef Mohammaed Ahmed, and his wife Siham Ismail Nimr Ahmed were also killed alongside the family in the airstrike. Khaled Hani Abu Marshood, grandson of Tahani and Ahmed, and son of Hani and Amal, was injured in the attack and was reportedly rescued from the rubble of the family home.
Friends and family shared posts via social media in mourning of the family members. An account named Awda, on Facebook, shared their condolences for Muhammad who was an engineer and project coordinator at Gaza Return Health and Community Association. A friend of Ahmed’s, Rami Haroon on Facebook, reported that Ahmed refused to be displaced from his home throughout the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, reportedly stating that if he were to die, he would die in his home. Mahmoud Naseem, nephew to Hani, Muhammad and Younis shared kind words about each of the brothers via Facebook. Of Hani, Mahmoud wrote that they had spoken the day prior about starting a business and that his humility was his essence in life. Of Younis, Mahmoud called him “the cheerful, handsome, and polite one” and he referred to Muhammad (Hamada) as “the most wonderful person you could ever meet, so kind, so calm, so ethical.”
Firas A Marshoud, the son of Tahani and Ahmed and a surviving member of the family wrote on Facebook, “I am now alone in a difficult world” following the death of his siblings, parents and extended family in this attack.
Photos shared by Palestine Info on Twitter/X, and video shared by the Palestinian News Agency, Sanad, showed the extent of the damage caused to the Marshood family home. The building was partially collapsed, with multiple collapsed ceilings and completely broken walls allowing a view into the bombed out shell that remained of the home. The family’s belongings can be seen strewn throughout the rubble as members of the Civil Defense crew attempt to recover bodies from the building. In a video shared by the Palestinian News Agency Sanad, on Facebook, the Civil Defense crew are seen removing at least one person from the rubble, fully covered on a stretcher as they are carried into an ambulance. The post which shared the video alleged that this was the moment that Hani Abu Marshood and his wife, Khalil, were removed from the wreckage of the home.
A photo was shared by a Facebook account named “Rastan is beautiful with our gathering and our sweet Friday” showing images of the Marshood home alongside an image of a baby laid out on a hospital floor. It is unclear if this may have been Khaled or if this was an image unrelated to this incident. Further images were shared on Facebook showing scenes from the hospital, including by Mohammad Alhour and Mohammed Nimr Marshood, cousin of Ahmed. In both photos, the bodies of those killed in the attack could be seen wrapped in blankets and body bags on the floor outside the hospital as mourners looked on.
