At least one civilian, a young man, was killed by an alleged Israeli drone strike in Block 2 of Jabalia Refugee Camp in Gaza on February 21, 2026.
On Twitter/X, @ShehabAgency identified the victim as 30-year-old Majed Abu Maarouf. Another post from @ShehabAgency also included a selfie of Majed.
Neighbour and friend Ali al-Najjar described Majed as a “kind and respectable man, known for his integrity and loyalty. He was fearless and courageous, a hero who never backed down.”
Abdul Qader Munther Rayyan told the devastating story of the loss which has befallen the Abu Maarouf branch of the Nasaybi family with the loss of their third family member. According to Abdul Qader Munther Rayyan, Majed was born in Block 2 of Jabalia and his father passed away, leaving him an orphan. Majed was preceded in death by his two brothers, Fouad and Imad, who reportedly was a militant that participated in October 7th. However, there was no indication found in the local sources that Majed was a member of a militant group. Abdul Qader Munther Rayyan further described his “deep compassion for those around him and his readiness to forgive. Residents of the camp told me that, just the night before, he had purchased biscuits and distributed them as an act of charity for the souls of his brothers—seeking to join them and be counted among them.”
A video posted by Mamdouh Abu Alwaleed documented the funeral for Majed. In the video, a group of men can be seen carrying Majed’s body through the street with the remains of damaged buildings and piles of rubble visible in the background.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Israeli military.
