During the morning of July 24th 2024, five people were reportedly killed and six others, including children, were injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on an apartment/home belonging to the Abdul Nadi family in the Al-Jurn area of the Jabalia Refugee Camp in the northern Gaza Strip.
Shady Abdul Nadi posted on Facebook to announce the deaths of her cousin, 35-year-old Ali Ziad Abdul Nabi, his wife 33-year-old Abeer Abdul Nabi (Umm Ziad), and their young son, 7-year-old Baraa Ali Ziad Abdul Nabi. The rest of Ali and Abeer’s children were reported to have been injured. The number of children and the extent of these injuries remains unknown. In the post, Shady Abdul Nadi shared an image of Ali looking into the camera.
Sameehaa al-Aswad, a friend of Abeer’s, posted to Facebook in memory of her friend. Sameehaa lauded Abeer for her status as “the memorizer of the Book of Allah,” and remembered her as “loyal”, “kind-hearted”, and “the owner of noble morals.” Speaking of Abeer’s love for her husband, Sameeha remembered that Ali “was the air [Abeer] breathed.” She “loved him and couldn’t live without him [and] refused to let her sun set without him.”
Sari Helmy Abu Suhaib, a friend of Ali’s, remembered him as his “support” and “backer,” attaching a photograph of Ali smiling with a young boy, presumably Baraa or another of his children.
While some social media posts claimed three people had been killed, others alleged five had died in the strike. The names of the other casualties were not publicly available, though this assessment will be updated if more information emerges.
The Facebook page of the Egyptian news source Mada shared that the Palestinian News Agency ‘Wafa’ reported that the five bodies of those killed in the strike had been transferred to Kamal Adwan hospital.
Both X/ Twitter accounts @alking14399969 and @AlarabyTV tweeted to share that six people had been injured as a result of the incident.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to Israeli forces.
