On June 25, 2025, the Israeli military allegedly killed up to six people following an airstrike near the training college in the Ansar government complex, west of Gaza City. Among those killed were three children,15-year-old Khaled Mohammed Misbah Felfel, seven-year-old Maryam Abdel Fattah Mutie Abu Jarad and seven-year-old Omar Faleh Warsh Agha. A photojournalist, 33-year-old Mahmoud Issa Abu Sharbi was also killed. According to reports, an unnamed woman and child were also among those killed, although it is unclear whether the unidentified child was Khaled, Maryam or Omar. “A number” of others were reportedly injured.
Following the incident, friends and family took to social media to mourn their loved ones. Among them were relatives of Maryam Abdul Fattah Mutie Abu Jarad, who succumbed to her injuries a day after the bombing. Sharing photos of Maryam smiling and hugging her father’s arm, relatives described her as a “little bird of paradise.” In a lament for her daughter, Maryam’s mother, Hiba Umm Bakr, wrote, “May God have mercy on your soul, my heart’s soul, the light of my eyes, the joy of my heart, my firstborn, my daughter, my Maryam. May God reunite us with you in the Gardens of Bliss.” In a collective outpouring of grief, sources offered prayers for her father, asking God to grant him “steadfastness” in the wake of her death. Indeed, Maryam’s father had initially announced her injury, desperate: “Oh my dearest, may God heal you.”
Social media posts also mourned the loss of another child killed in the attack, Khaled Mohammed Misbah Felfel. Seeking solace, family members shared Quranic verses to console one another, quoting: “And give good tidings to the patient, who, when disaster strikes them, say, ‘Indeed we belong to God, and indeed to Him we will return.’ Those will have blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the rightly guided.” Saed Abed included a photograph of Khaled, smiling as he took a picture of himself in a mirror.
The death of photojournalist Mahmoud Issa Abu Sharbi drew widespread attention. Having survived a previous attempt on his life, Abu Sharbi was mourned by crowds who gathered around his press vest during his funeral.
The names of the victims were matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health List of Fatalities in Gaza, first appearing in the tenth publication, published on 16 July, 2025.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to Israeli forces.
