On November 30, 2024, an alleged Israeli attack on the Najm al-Din Arbakan School in Jabalia al-Balad in the northern Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of four people, including two children, and the injury of a number of other civilians. According to @ajmubasher on Twitter/X, the victims were displaced civilians.
A woman named Amna Al-Abd Nabhan, a 19-year-old man named Osama Abdullah Ibrahim Eid, and siblings, Ibrahim Hatem al-Batsh (a child) and 10-year-old Ayat Hatem Mohammad Abdel Batsh, were killed in the school, which was reportedly providing them shelter.
Safa News reported an airstrike resulting in the injuries and killings of civilians at the Arbakan School in Jabalia al-Balad at 16:23 local time.
Photographs shared on social media show jarring images of the young Ibrahim and Ayat Hatem-Batsh, both wrapped in cloth, with their faces showing. Blood is shown on Ibrahim’s forehead, which appears to have a bandage wrapped around it underneath the cloth. Other photos, shared by Darb Al Shuhdaa on Facebook, showed the siblings, deceased, side by side. Both of their eyes are open, and they are covered with a blanket.
Posts of mourning were shared by family members, such as by Khaled Albattsh, who grieves the deaths of Ayat and Ibrahim, the children of his cousin. He shared the message: we mourn the passing of the child Ayat Hatem Al-Batsh and the child Ibrahim Hatem Al-Batsh, the siblings of our beloved cousin Hatem Al-Batsh. No words can express the extent of the loss, but we believe that they are in a better place […].
Omar AlMashaqba posted a video showing a man carrying a lifeless Ibrahim. In the video, the man gently lays the child on a white sheet while a doctor wipes the blood from his face. The video is captioned: the arrival of a child martyr to the Baptist Hospital after the targeting of the Arbakan School in Jabalia al-Balad […]
Muna Elbatch shared a photo of Ibrahim from when he was alive, showing a chubby-cheeked, smiling child wearing a green shirt.
Similarly, Oussama Abdallah Eid, who died from his injuries on December 1, 2025, according to Darb Al Shuhdaa on Facebook, is shown alive in one photo. In it he is smiling and posing for the picture on a grass field in front of some buildings. He is wearing a black button down shirt and dark trousers with matching dark hair and a dark beard.
Another photo shared shows the deceased Oussama with a bandage wrapped around the top of his head, his eyes closed- one is bruised. Behind him on the fabric on which he is lying, is dried blood. He is still wearing a coat and a red shirt.
A video by @ajmubasher on X/Twitter shows some of the aftermath of the attack, including Oussama being rushed into an ambulance, wearing the same coat and red shirt. Blurred footage also shows the heart-wrenching visuals of blood running out of the building and into the street, eventually being mopped away.
HARDY R on Facebook posted a video of a man in a Press jacket in a hospital, showing several injured children being treated for injuries supposedly resulting from the attack on the school. Cries are heard in the background as doctors rush around the room. Injured children are shown sprawled out on various beds, being hooked up to IV drips or being bandaged.
Where possible, the names of the victims have been matched with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH) lists, which include national ID numbers. Since October 26, 2023, the MoH has released a number of lists, along with an additional list of medical professionals, which was released on September 17, 2024.
